It's not for fear of being outnumbered, it's all about bad optics. Even when 100% warranted, the videos of cops hitting people over the head looks bad to the great unwashed masses who don't know any better, and don't know the intricacies of police work.The old 3rd platoon in District 4 would have had them running for the Hills after 20 minutes! |

First of all, there were no news cameras at most of the looting locations. Most of the witnesses were people carefully looking out their apartment windows.Secondly, the optics aren't that bad when the arrestees are wielding crowbars and hammers. But the risk of serious injury to the cops is much higher. |

I had a boss who's son was with the NYPD. He was driving a decoy gypsie cab (not meant as a racist remark) and he was set upon by THUGS who attempted to rob him on Flatbush Ave. Unable to reach his weapon. He swung ang cracked the skull of one of the attackers with his Motorola Radio. Even though he made the arrest, he was charged for using an unauthorized weapon or some such charge. Politicians always have a cop's back - covered with a target. |
