Comparing New York and Pennsylvania's isn't valid.
New York would be a Blue state without any Blue dots upstate.
Pennsylvania could not be a Blue state without those several inland cities.

I never specifically mentioned Pennsylvania. 8 said the coastal states, a few random ones like NM, and some that go back and forth....that would include PA. YOU brought up PA as a coastal state, attempting to say that I mentioned and then even brought up coast guard. YOU started all this. I did respond and say it sort of could be somewhat coastal in response to your posts but I never claimed it was.
Again, create a diversion and pretend the opposition started it!

Does the coast go up as far as the tides rise and fall? That would include Orange, Putnam, and Dutchess.

And of course the counties on the Great Lakes are coastal, as you pointed out.

I don't think bordering on a river constitutes "coastal" lest every state on the Mississippi would be a coastal state. In fact since there is no state that doesn't have a river or an ocean coastline, all states would be coastal. Your premise is silly

To further address this PA thing, I never really considered it coastal in attitude. The vast majority of areas are sort of rural and salt of earth types. Sure it has its cities too, but that's what keeps it flipping blue and red.

Furthermore, NYC residents seem to "infest" (I don't mean that in a bad way) it's neighboring areas of it's state more than let's say Philly's, Pittsburgh's, etc. I mean nyc'ers seem to have more second homes, etc in other parts of the state and influence those area more than PA's seem to do

Philly suburbs are turning Blue. Has nothing to do with 2nd homes. They were moderate Republicans, which the Republican party no longer is. That's why 40 House seats flipped in 2018, on top of the 3 flipped in 2016. Do remember Conor Lamb, from a conservative Pittsburgh suburb. He beat a Trump-like incumbent.

Perhaps....that's why Suffolk for example is pretty red, even with the huge influx of nyc'ers (Hamptons, etc), as you can only vote in one area. That said, their attitude certainly does change and project in Suffolk.... especially summers and weekends

Suffolk, Orange, Putnam, Sullivan, Greene, and Delaware Counties went for Trump.

Ulster, Dutchess, and Columbia went for Clinton.
