The latest study from University of Washington is in line with what the politicians are saying, which is that there will be enough when the times comes:The analysis also highlights the strain that will be placed on hospitals. At the epidemic's peak, sick patients could exceed the number of available hospital beds by 64,000 and could require the use of around 20,000 ventilators. Ventilators are already running short in hard-hit places like New York City. But Cuomo knows more than the scientist amirite? NYC needs 30,000 but the entire country needs 20,000? And this is not a fluff study, it is a doom and gloom one predicting 81,000 deaths. |

If you select New York from the drop-down, it says we'll reach peak resource usage in 8 days. That's probably based on an old rate of increase. Cuomo claims here that it'll be 21 days from now because the hospitalization doubling rate has slowed from 2 to 3.4 to 4.7 days. The disparity between ventilator projections is curious. |

What percentage of cases need a ventilator, and for how long do they need it?Let me make up my own "facts" based on theirs. 80K deaths. Implies 8 million cases. Say 10% need a ventilator for 10 days each. Implies 8 million ventilator-days needed in the next 100 days. Implies 80,000 ventilators needed, not 20,000. And no doubt Cuomo is being more conservative. So what's the question? |

Yeah, just pointing it out.It's probably going higher because we were mostly only testing the really sick 1-2 weeks ago and they have been dying. The reality may be that the majority of people that have had it have already recovered and were never tested. |
