The 1st of 3 is by far the slowest learner.

I agree.

I voted for Mayor de Blasio (2x) and Governor Cuomo in general elections. I have no qualms holding them responsible for their failures.

I do take issue with the idea that they and not the President are responsible for their missteps, which is what OP is trying to do by omission.

The President is President of the entire country. The NYC mayor and administration is supposed to know what's best for NYC, as the Burlington VT Mayor knows what's best for Burlington.

The Trump admin could have issued guidelines such as "if you have positive cases and a population density > x, you should probably shelter in place now." Not because anyone would have listened, I suspect they would have been defiantly ignored and we'd be in the exact same position now either way. However he'd be able to say "I told you so" every time an NY politician gets ornery.

What good are the CDC and Homeland Security, then? Local pols are incentivized not to look like mass murderers because they ignored public health warnings and guidelines.

One week before DiBlasio's asinine tweet The CDC had recommended social distancing (first paragraph).

They did their job. DiBlasio undermined the message.
