lol, sure.
There's one governor who declared all workers in the state essential and voided all county and city curfews.

Pinellas County will enforce curfew.

LEO's need something to do and revenue to generate with crime dropping during social isolation.

Yikes.

Not meaning to minimize the crisis at all, but that's a remarkable coincidence, given that only 1 in 300,000 Americans has died of covid-19.

whats the details of that curfew?

I find the need to have a night curfew rather telling because as much as I complain, there's nothing to do at night. I guess gangbangers and drug vendors need protection too.

I doubt it will be permanent, but from Trump's statement about evaluating on a county by county basis where to relax restrictions, we could be entering some weird "red zone/green zone" world where places like NYC are sectioned off from places relatively untouched. Cuomo already said that locking down NYC & Westchester and leaving the rest open would be unworkable because people would just go next door to free-er areas. Unless, of course, this were enforced...via military.

Yeah, you can't possibly enforce a travel ban between counties or even between states. Neither constitutionally nor practically. Too many people can show some kind of a legitimate reason for travel.

Some NYC residents probably own residential property in every single county in all 6 New England states and all 5 mid-Atlantic states at a minimum. Similarly for every big city.

The best the "safe" counties can do is counter with PR or partial exclusionary measures. Moab UT got all motels in the county closed down to keep the visitors out. That wouldn't work in Greene County NY (because people visit second homes, not motels) but they are issuing press releases pointing out that they have zero hospitals.

The constitution is already suspended here - the 1st amendment right to peaceably assemble is currently gone. In VA Northam banned churches from holding services, violating 2 of the 5 protections 1A has.

CA closing gun stores (as non-essential businesses) violates 2A.

So, banning interstate travel violating the interstate commerce clause isn't even on the top 5 lists of constitutional infringements going on here.

The first likely doesn’t violate 1A because they can just use Zoom or other methods. Closing gun stores likely violates 2A. What is your take on Ohio and Texas trying to deem abortions as elective procedures so that they are not authorized due to Coronavirus? Prof. Eugene Volokh on his website hosted by a Reason has great discussions about each of those issues.

I disagree with closing gun stores violating the 2nd amendment. The amendment is about keeping and bearing arms, not trading them. Obviously you can’t get them to keep and bear without trading, but a temporary closure doesn’t prevent you from having the guns you already bought.

I don't like it. While I am pro-life, that's an ideological issue that has no place in an emergency. I disagreed with Pelosi trying to shove abortion funding into the stimulus bill and I also disagree with using executive fiat to close them. I think guns are "essential", they think abortions are "essential", so lets err on the side of freedom and leave both open.

Thus why I used the word trying. Considering she was asking for funding exempt from the Hyde Amendment, and the Hyde Amendment's entire purpose is to prevent taxpayer funded abortions... like what else is it for?

But it prevents those who become legal age from keeping and bearing arms because they would not be able to purchase, even temporarily. Also what if a gun needs to be repaired?

There's also people in states like CA who bought their guns, had to do the 10 day wait period, and the gun stores were closed before the 10th day. They own guns they are being prohibited access to.

Looked into it. It looks like the crux of the issue was this:
Billman said in an email that “an earlier iteration of the bill provided $1 billion to a program that did not contain Hyde protections,” but said changes were made to provide the funding through a HHS office “covered by the Hyde Amendment contained in the Labor HHS (LHHS) appropriations bill.”

Looks like I fell for media doing their usual sensationalization.

I think 2 things said in this thread are true. Such a travel ban is likely unconstitutional and by the time the Supreme Court rules as such, the need for the ban will hopefully be long passed.

Well, people will start suing right away. When cases get to the Supreme Court in a year, the whole court will be saying surely you could have figured out a less restrictive way to deal with this by now.
