I whole-heartedly thank you for this post.I was just at an art exhibitition for near east paintings of the 19th century primarily. You walk in, there is an old french map, etc. But two of the paintings listed 4 lands, one being "Palestine". The 19th century map had no such place on it. If they said Israel, which still would have been odd since it was occupied in the 19th century, they would've gotten protest. But I guess they won't hear anything by using the "p" word, unless I do so. Plus they misquoted the Bible. I think it's time we proportionately protest this opposite "PC" garbage. Ottoman Empire, South Syria, or Israel. But it's not a small town in east Texas. That looks sloppy in an academic setting. |

And to top it off, they had DISPUTED TERRITORIES as a category for match 4 game 2 of the GOAT tournament yesterday. That said, the original question about the Church of the Nativity should have never been approved for airing. |

Yeah, any question where your answer depends on your political views should not be on Jeopardy.Maybe next they'll ask the name of the second largest city in Northern Ireland, just to piss off another bunch of people. Since which answer is "correct" depends on politics, rather on physical facts, they were right to throw out the question. Declaring "Israel" correct and "Palestine" incorrect is completely unfounded. No country on Earth (not even Israel) considers Bethlehem to be Israeli territory. It is part of the West Bank (Judea and Samaria, in Israeli terminology) which Israel controls, but has not formally annexed. |

He's partly right. It was called Palestine by people not from there (such as speakers of the English language), like the names "Germany," "Egypt," "China," and "Japan."In the 1939 NY World's Fair there was a Palestine Pavilion. It was run by and on behalf of Jewish residents of Israel. |

Off topic now, I thought I read a few years ago about a dispute between Texas and Mexico last decade, but I found this interesting stuff instead.https://www.npr.org/2016/06/08/481206868/landowners-and-federal-officials-dispute-red-rivers-boundaries The federal government is changing the border between Texas and Oklahoma. What's going on? That's what landowners along the Red River want to know. For centuries, the Red River has been a line of demarcation. It once marked the boundary between Spain and the United States, later Texas and the U.S. and finally, Oklahoma and Texas. Now, as NPR's Wade Goodwyn reports, that could all change and affect tens of thousands of acres of private land in the process. WADE GOODWYN, BYLINE: Pat Canan is a petroleum engineer, a Texas game warden and a north Texas rancher with about 2,000 acres that abut the Red River. For more than 50 years, his family gazed across the river at their neighbors in Oklahoma. One day, while investigating his property on his all-terrain vehicle, Canan saw something stuck in the ground, a fence post in the middle of one of his pastures. He stopped and found a little round bronze marker with official looking words stamped in the middle. What was written there was dumbfounding. |

Your logic is failed on one point. A child cannot be its own master. A slave node needs a master note. What is the "Palestinian Territories" a "Territory" of? The term “occupied territory,” which appears in the Fourth Geneva Convention, originated as a result of the Nazi occupation of Europe. Though it has become common parlance to describe the West Bank and Gaza as “occupied territories,” there is no legal basis for using this term in connection to the Arab-Israeli conflict. Prior to the failed Oslo Accord, it was always Israel just like the Christmas songs said. |
