Frankly, this order scares the hell out of me. Calling Jews a "nationality" makes me think of Hitler's Nuremberg laws. Anti-Semitic bigots will undoubtedly now tell American Jews that they aren't "real Americans" because their "real nationality" is Jewish.

According to The Times, the order will effectively interpret Judaism as a nationality, not just a religion, to trigger a federal law penalizing colleges and universities deemed to be shirking their responsibility to foster an open climate for minority students, according to the officials, who insisted on anonymity to discuss the matter before the announcement.
Recognizing that Jews are indeed a nationality is not the same as calling Judaism a nationality.

That is Marxist BS, because Hindus are both ethnic and religious in many cases and recognized as such, and not all ethnic Jews (of the historic tribe of Judah, whose land was called Judaea by the Romans recognizing that it was their land even though a conquered client state) adhere to Judaism.

The Fred G disappeared after I demolished him in the laundry detergent thread. The sad thing was instead of sitting back admiring his work and accepting the recognition praise admiration call it what you will sure to come his way he, for reasons none of us will ever grasp, immediately turned around and attacked LuchAAA in the infamous Long Island City/South Astoria gentrification thread. The LuchAAA annihilated him in that one and that was the end of SMAZ.

I warned SMAZ but he was feeling his oats which means to behave in a bold manner. This much I know... going after LuchAAA in a thread about the gentrification of northern Queens is going to end poorly for you. Some people do things that defy logic and that right there was one of those things. It made no sense none.

Anyway, the anti-discrimination law in question doesn't cover religious discrimination. Which is why this order was issued, saying that, for the purposes of enforcing anti-discrimination law, Jewishness can be considered a race or nationality, at least if the people doing the discriminating considered it to be so. The order actually is careful NOT to say that Jews will be deemed a "nationality" for general purposes or for any any other purpose, so I admit that my initial worries about the order were unfounded. But the initial reports about the order were inaccurate.
