No, that is not some Queens-bound train designation like the QJ running on the Brighton. It stands for Continuing Qualification. So I returned to New York late last night from TK, our training facility in Denver, after miraculously having emerged unscathed from Continuing Qualification Maneuvers Validation/Evaluation, something none of us saw coming. So like once every 9 months my demographic (male stewardess) alternates between Maneuvers Validation and LOE, or the FAA Line Oriented Evaluation. So over the course of the 2 day event, there are orals and briefings followed by 8 hours in the simulator working normal and non-normal procedures. So like the fidelity and realism of the simulator is remarkable with truly realistic audio, tactile, and visual imagery provided by the advanced technologies/efficiencies.

So to cite one scenario, I was like well into my first service when some lady in Business Class pushed her tray away in a threatening manner and then yelled at me quote I do not want the Buffalo close quote - I was serving the Buffalo Mac 'n Cheese because we were all out of the other option which was the Asparagus Brie Manicotti drizzled in a Pomegranate Ajai sauce. Even though it was simulator training I was sweating and scared but handled the situation relatively well. So like the instructor told me I performed that particular maneuver above minimum standards which is not exactly a ringing endorsement but I'll take it. Whatever, I just wanted to get on with it.

To my point, I am asking you people to please consider congratulating me with +1s and/or Gold Stars, one of which I provided below so you have no excuse and can simply "Copy Image Address" and paste it in your reply. I'll look for it - I was studying in preparation for my evaluation. I can tell you my Standards Captain this week in Denver mentioned that after Boeing Engineering addressed software/hardware issues the United Check Pilots/LCAs tried everything they could in simulation to place the MAX in what we call an "Undesired Aircraft State" and were unable to do so. Obviously, I do not know anything about the Boeing Test Pilots work in same regard.

It's a long one to be sure, Dave - I just got through a little over half the article. It is a well written document, probably a little more suited to you with your interest and background in finance and accounting. The technical and business side of the equation was an interesting read with respect to timelines and outsourcing. From my standpoint, why was MCAS, whatever the intent of the system, not brought to the attention of the operator. How many of us have really explored in depth, I mean really explored, our auto manual. Aviation is a different animal. As for the reasons pilots were left in the dark blind and ignorant of MCAS, I suppose now I know. In the end, I know.

Thanks, FYBklyn1959! I miss that thing even though as arguably the leading male stewardess on this board, bar none or bar some, I can fly on any piece of equipment anywhere at any time. But still, I do miss it.

I flew down to Atlanta this morning on WN, but, alas, the 737 MAX is still grounded by the FAA owing to, which means because of, airworthiness issues arising out if software glitches in the MCAS of said aircraft. As a result, I had to content myself with the earlier 737-7 model which operated our flight.

Although not as regally appointed as the company's MAX jets, the aforementioned airplane did carry me above the gathering storm with the utmost celerity. We alighted from the legendary RWY 9L in Philadelphia, the climb from which offered splendid views of the Schuylkill and Delaware Rivers, and the spires of Center City, where the Founders met to organize the Republic.

The flight was uneventful until our approach to ATL, when the F/A inadvertently caused a fashion calamity by wearing plaid with earthtones. This apparel mishap did not affect our ability to intercept the ILS and touch down gently upon the sweet soil of Georgia, with the Peachtree Center resplendent in the distance.

Is this evaluation a one-time since you are a recently promoted captain, or a regular evaluation?

I know it all comes down to dollars and cents but I don't understand how the MAX was approved based on the original airworthiness certificate granted to the original 737. The only thing the MAX has in common with the first 737 is that they are both single aisle aircraft with two engines.

Nothing of the sort. It's money, and lots of it. Requiring a new airworthiness certificate costs major bucks, with extensive testing that must be done.

And Southwest, the largest user of 737's, has made it crystal clear they do not want the aircraft to need a new airworthiness certificate. This was discussed in the article.

Regular. I was evaluated with a fellow Captain upgrade (Navy Hornets) and then had another evaluation on last leg of OE and then had 6 month Line Check which is required for baby Captains. That sets the clock for every 2 year Line Check. F/Os do not go through any of that except for the fact that even though he she zie is not the subject of Line Check evaluation they are being observed. Finally, to square the circle, we go back to Denver TK (United Training Center) every 9 months alternating between CQT/MV (Maneuvers Validation) and CQTL/LOE (Line Oriented Evaluation).

Another reason, I assume, is type commonality amongst those variations of the 737, so if you train on one sub-type, you're type rated for ALL of the variations your airline flies.

Last time I went in there Dixie was wide open. You know a lot about aviation - I am not looking for any trouble from you until 172200Z (Universal Time Coordinated) OCT19 at the earliest.

If memory serves I used to take the M100 between Kingsbridge Avenue and W. 231st Street in the Bronx and the uptown Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Close lol The M100 ends at around 215th Street now, a few blocks south of the northernmost tip of Manhattan.

I know a lot about aviation because I was an ATC washout :-\ Being washed out of ERAU's ATC program doesn't negate my general love of aviation, however. I've even gotten into the ZAB (ABQ) Center during training.

ATC is a difficult course whether ERAU or OKC. I am glad to hear read you still have an affinity for which means a love of aviation despite the fact flying is a dangerous proposition and should never be considered as part of your itinerary not ever. Period.
