The Hamburger gets re-named

Posted by Orange Blossom Special on Tue Sep 10 11:33:44 2019

I HOPE I didn't miss any news where the town had to be renamed too.
***

Burger King in South Africa is dropping the word “ham” from its menu, after adding bacon at some of its stores, in order to be respectful of Muslim customers.

On Friday the chain confirmed it has changed the names of three of its products. What was previously known as a “Double Spicy Hamburger” will now just be a “Double Spicy Burger”; the “Triple Hamburger with Cheese” becomes the “Triple Burger with Cheese”, and a “Hamburger King Jr” on the kids menu will now be just a “Kids Burger”.

The names are being changed “to be more respectful of” its halaal client base, the chain said in a statement.

The name changes will apply across all Burger Kings in SA, including those that now serve bacon.

The word “ham” has featured on the Burger King menu since the chain opened its first store in South Africa in 2013. Up to September, all of its stores were fully halaal.

A hamburger is by definition made of minced beef and does not contain pork. The “ham” is in reference to the German city of Hamburg, where hamburger patties were supposedly first made.

Burger King knows this, South African chief operating officer Juan Klopper told Business Insider South Africa on Friday, but it still wants to avoid any possible confusion.

“It is just to be super-sensitive to perceptions, and to be super clear,” he said.

I really can’t take these religious crackpots any more. The older I get the more atheism agrees with me. I’m a law abiding loving husband, father and grandfather but I can’t abide by these ridiculous superstitions. Eat this, don’t eat that. Spin a chicken over your heads three times and transfer your sins to the chicken before you cut his throat. Really? Not for me..not anymore..

So South Africans with darker skin are savages?

And you think liberal whites in South Africa don't know that the hamburger is named after Hamburg?

And yet in middle America I can find a halal restaurant easier than anything Kosher. They even got a section in the new giant Asian supermarket (which has the most amazing giant carrots)! OTOH, this week the news is that Alaska has to change and pay a fine in their prisons for not doing Ramadan right. yet I hear sad things about Jewish prisoners who don't get squat. I thought we're all equal in America.

But on another. I don't know about Chickens, but there's one thing that bothers me about the sacrifices. If (when) I sin, I am to bring an appropriate sin offering at The Temple.
I purposely have done wrong, and as a consequence, I have to take either Wilbur or Bessie up to be killed. Shouldn't the thought of this be traumatic to me? Didn't anybody get screamish?
I asked a Rabbi along these lines, he said he recalled Western's where the kids would name the pig, and then the pig would go off, etc. I guess it was a part of life to some people.

If my opinion and interpretation mattered, I'd think this is one reason why of all things there are no sacrifices anymore. It doesn't work when it's lip-service. There are other ways to sacrifice that mean things and aren't just an appeasement scapegoat.

The prisoners mentioned above sacrifice.

I'm not into the stern judgement/judgmental group of religionist. I don't think I can post why. But I wouldn't confuse a singular person or persons for the Creator of the Universe. I'd hope even an atheist can distinguish between the two concepts of people and the Big Bang.

It just amazes me that some people who can’t seem to get thru 24 hours in the here and now without attacking or killing something or worse someone seem to have eternity all figured out. “ Believe in what I believe in or you are doomed to eternal damnation or better yet, I’ll just kill you”. That’s the message I get from any organized religion. If there is a heaven and hell I’ll just take my place in line behind the religious zealots, crackpots and murderers and take my chances. In the meantime leave me out of it. Pass the bacon hamburgers please!

I am actually happy that Muslim/Arab nations are seeing sharp increases in obesity and heart disease because it's happening without pork products.

I am a big supporter of pig farming and health benefits of eating pork and see it as victory when someone who does not eat it has a bad health outcome.

No. They bought a voice recognition company which means that they still intend to use voice at the drive-through, it's just that it will be a robot instead of a person.

Interestingly, some drive through restaurants route the drive through intercom to a remote call center, so I'm not sure how much of an improvement a fully automated system would be.
