Sorry but I vote *for* a candidate. If there were no 3rd party options I'd have had a few drinks at the bar and given the polling place the finger again on the walk home (though this time the path from the bar to home doesn't involve passing it, it would more be waving in the general direction).

Don’t kid yourself, Mitch McConnell would have gone nuclear regardless of what Harry Reid did or did not do. The only difference would have been that there would have been more vacancies for Trump to fill because no Obama nominees would receive a vote.

Yawn. The plural of anecdote is not data. My point is that for every person like you who didn't bother to vote Republican, there could have been (and probably was) a person who didn't bother to vote Democratic.

You don't actually have any evidence.

Because of checks and balances. Like I say, we are not a straight Democracy. If they only went by the popular vote, whole sections of this country would feel disenfranchised and would never be represented by the government and the government would never have their best interests in mind.

At this point 4 years ago the Republicans had the virtual civil war in their ranks without a strong frontrunner. Quite frankly it is far too early to make predictions regarding 2020. Would Trump be favored over a majority of the announced candidates from the Democrats, yes, but 18+ months is an eternity in politics.

Well maybe those places should work on attracting more people unless cows and trees suddenly count more than people. I do agree that the President should have to do more than running up the vote among the base to win, but let’s not pretend that that is the will of the people.

If it's a straight popular vote, the candidates wouldn't even have to do that. The entire country except the coasts, Chicago area, and Austin area would be ignored, as the "American values" would be considered a bad thing by the Dems.

Of course not but I’m not mentally the same as I was when I was 26 either. We all evolve. Other than that I don’t have a problem with keeping the voting age at 18 with one small caveat: If you’re old enough to go to school and face the risk of your school being shot up, then you should be old enough to vote. Or maybe take it a step further; if your school has been shot up then you are allowed to vote.

That's a tricky one. At various times in our history, "majority American values" have opposed things like employment and marriage equality, violent suppression of peaceful protests, the right of LGBT troops to serve in the military, and school integration.

"Majority values" aren't always right or democratic.

You are such a fucking liar:

Job growth for Obama’s eight years:

2009: Negative 422,000 per month
Lost 5.1 million jobs (teeth of the recession)
2010: 88,000 per month or 1.05 million for the year
2011: 174,000 per month or 2.09 million
2012: 179,000 per month or 2.14 million
2013: 192,000 per month or 2.3 million
2014: 250,000 per month or 3 million
2015: 226,000 per month or 2.7 million
2016: 187,000 per month or 2.24 million

Trump’s through September 2018:

2017: 182,000 per month or 2.19 million
Through September 2018: 208,000 per month or 2.5 million run rate

BASED ON EMPLOYMENT DATA FROM THE U.S. BUREAU OF LABOR STATISTICS

These show that Trump, with a larger numerical workforce than Obama, still only has growth nearly the same as Obama.

That's not a gain of more than 1%, as you claim.
