What the Dems have to do is to re-group, develop a practical platform that will appeal to their base that goes beyond just "Dump Trump"

Who is their base? and what does their base want besides socialism?

Except this is the wrong message to take. The message should be to keep the Federal Government's role in our day to day lives small, because no matter who wins, about half the country will be unhappy and unable to do anything about it. Right now it's the liberals' turn to be butthurt, a sting they hadn't felt for 8 years while happily allowing Federal power to grow.

The only point that's true there is eliminate the electoral college, which has been proposed many times, that's not new. It is long past time, however. This is no longer an agrarian economy supported by the unpaid labor of enslaved people. We need to ensure the will of the people.

The Republicans will play by the new rules and still win.

Remember, a lot of (R) voters in blue states don't bother going to the polls due to the electoral college. Change the rules and suddenly their vote matters. It may even backfire entirely.

If the voters see it that way in 2020, than so be it. Thats the American way. But if an election was held now, based on the strong economy, record low joblessness, millions off food stamps, minority employment at new highs as his approval rate, Rocket Man calmed down & the Dems in a state of disarray & virtual civil war within their ranks without a strong frontrunner, Trump will win reelection in 2020 by a landlside. Thats just the facts. As Casey Stengl used to say..."you could look it up".
On a personal level, I don't like him either. I always thought of him as the "Groper in Chief" But nowadays, presidents are held to a much lower moral standard than the average Joe six pack. Thats just the way it is. But after all, this isin't a popularity contest.

I was for Obama in 2008, and I voted as such.
I was against Obama in 2012, I had a few more drinks at the bar that Tuesday night before walking home and giving the finger to the polling location on the way.
I was against Clinton in 2016, and voted 3rd party.

That middle one would have gone differently for me if my vote would have mattered. I still would have voted 3rd party for that last one but that was because I was still 100% of the mindset that there could not possibly have been two worse candidates in the history of the main parties.
