Public Advocate election thread

Posted by Spider-Pig on Sat Feb 16 20:44:49 2019

I haven't decided whom to vote for. Probably Ulrich as he most laments the failure of the Amazon deal, but I'd rather vote for someone who has a chance of winning. I don't want Nixon's running mate to win; so I'm not voting for Henry Cabot Lodge.*

*No, I did NOT have to look that up.

Ugh, right, there's homework to be done.

I was on the receiving end of a poll paid for by candidate Ron Kim, and his entire spiel (as indicated by the questions) appears to be "corporations are unfair" with absolutely no substance to back it up. So the poll actually made me far less likely to consider him.

I just got a mailer from Kim, which is why I'm posting this. It was out of date (it may have been sent timely) as it was all anti-Amazon. His election line is "No Amazon."

A bit of a review of the first debate made me think that maybe Dawn Smalls is a decent candidate. A little less radical than some of the others, and an establishment background (in what I consider a good way).

Problem is that you have to vote for someone who has a chance of winning to avoid throwing away your vote. How I long for ranked choice voting.

Well in that case I think it's Mark-Viverito vs. Williams, and I'd go for the former if I decide that I want to influence the outcome.

He seems to be even more radical than her.

Williams highlighted his vote against a city program to mandate affordable housing units in upzoned properties or neighborhoods, and criticized Mark-Viverito for ushering it through the Council when she was speaker, a move she said she was proud of, given that Mandatory Inclusionary Housing was a historic progressive change in the city’s land use rules. Williams believes it didn’t go far enough.

+1. Change starts with you!

Though ranked choice voting would certainly make this easier.

Ranked choice voting would make this possible. Voting for your first choice makes you a fool.

So then why don't we just have D, R, I buttons to push on Election Day? We don't even have to know the candidates!

Ms. Smalls doesn’t seem ready for prime time. She is unsure when speaking. Kind of like Rick Perry.

As a loyal republican I'm voting for Eric Ulrich also. I know he won't win but he's the most conservative. I haven't been following this race too closely, who is the least radical of the other candidates?

I am a disloyal Democrat who despises the Trump Party. But he calls himself a Rockefeller Republican and I like those. I also like that he was the only one at that debate who opposed the closure of Rikers.

I really don't understand the close-Rikers movement. If there are concerns about how humane Rikers is or isn't, those concerns can be addressed with way less money by renovating Rikers than by building totally new jails, which can then be run so badly that they are even more inhumane.

Williams was caught going though speed and red light cameras 18 times in less than 3 years and he had the backing of NY State Senator Crappy "Kill Yourself" Parker who was busted for illegally giving his assigned parking placard to someone else (or using a different vehicle assigned) while obstructing a bike lane on the East of Manhattan.

Wolf in sheep's clothing.
