It was just a few months ago that many here were ridiculing Luch for calling her the future of the Democratic Party. They thought that she was just a low level, insignificant congressperson. Turns out both were wrong. She's not just the future of the Party, she's the present.I don't agree with AOC on a few key issues, but I do like her passion. Yet I wonder what NYC would look like if her vision were to come to pass. Based on her celebratory tweet about saving NYErs from having to work for greedy corporations, I can only imagine that most top companies would be gone. There'd be lots more people working for the government and maybe some non-profits. And maybe companies would be forced to share profits more equitably with employees. That sounds horrible to me. I can see the Democratic Party potentially fracturing unless more like AOC get elected and start running the party. |

Baby boomers have run the Democratic Party for the last few decades but millennials like AOC are taking over. She's very mainstream for a millennial in Los Angeles. Not so much for a baby boomer. I'm guessing NYC, Chicago, etc are the same. |

Spreading unionization at Amazon's distribution centers would affect its bottom - big time. It would appear that unions were trying to leverage the NYS subsidies. Cuomo was trying to broker a deal to permit the union organizing at the Staten Island distribution center. Corporate mentality is to prevent unions from gaining any potential foothold. AOC was a convenient scapegoat for Cuomo, when his efforts failed. The Times quoted part of Amazon's statement, “A number of state and local politicians have made it clear that they oppose our presence and will not work with us to build the type of relationships that are required to go forward,” Continued lack of union representation at their distribution centers could be construed as one of the "type of relationships" that Amazon requires. |

Then if they elect someone that they largely dot support, it's their own fault. I think the democrats are in a tough place. They have an extremely diverse constituency that is passionate on many issues. Much more so than republicans which have far fewer items on their agenda. If democrats don't keep the people that are passionate happy, the party could split. One of the two parties is going to split. Democrats are on deck. |
