I don't know how anyone could be for Amazon not having the headquarters here. New York City is the center of the universe and we need economic shots in the arm like this. And they even said in the statement that even though 70% of New Yorkers wanted them there, because of the noisy vocal minority of people who didn't want them there, now, they are going to abandon New York City and go somewhere else. |

Amazon was going to get $3 billion in corporate welfare to come to NYC, while at the same time refusing to pay the people who would have worked there, a wage sufficient to allow them to live in the city. On top of that, the company had no plans to invest in infrastructure, education, or the surrounding community, in exchange for all that government largesse. Then, too, the 7 train is already running at capacity, and cannot absorb 25,000 new riders every day. I'M m all for creating new jobs, but jobs that pay a realistic wage, and are accompanied by a genuine, workable community plan. Amazon did neither. |

Then, too, the 7 train is already running at capacity, and cannot absorb 25,000 new riders every day. This shouldn't be on OTChat. :) If Amazon hires 25,000 workers, only a small fraction would come to work on the 7 train from Flushing (the crowded direction). 6 of 8 rapid transit approaches to LIC (all except the westbound 7 and E/F) still have the potential for added capacity. It's quite possible that the subsidies were way higher than reasonable, making Amazon a bad deal. But we shouldn't invent transit-related issues that don't exist. |

It weird Amazon's going from having HQ 2 (the NYC half) to not doing it at all instead of relocating to another city. Makes me think maybe they were just relocating a lot of employees. Or possibly VA will pick up the slack?A city like Newark, NJ could have really used it while still pulling from the same talent pool. |

Those are just the splashy issues. The real issue is whether the proposed subsidies were appropriately proportional to the jobs added, especially if the added jobs only partially materialized.
