The dead man was an armed security guard employed by the bar. Of course, the cops inly saw a Black man with a gun, and started blasting away. The deceased hero was holding the would-be rampage killer, who had been ejected from the watering hole earlier, down for police to take him in to custody. Fact is, what happened in Midlothian could just as readily happen anywhere, racism is that rampant. What bothers me even more is that racist cops are on the public payroll. I don't want to be supporting the living or anyone with those attitudes (which often spread to attitudes of other groups, isms like that rarely travel alone).Those cops not only shot an innocent taxpayer, they shot a hero that was holding a criminal until they arrived. For cars, there is one serious accident for every x hours people spend in a car. For guns, there is one serious accident for every y hours people spend carrying a gun. And x is a way larger number than y. |

I don't see how Roberson ended up dead in this incident, at all. the police are trained in threat assessment and scene evaluation; by all accounts Roberson was not attacking, threatening, or provoking the cops in any way. He was, in fact, containing the actual threat present at the scene.I know the righties are gonna scream about this, but it is true that the police sometimes see a Black man, regardless of the context of the circumstances, and assume he is the bad guy. The cops are also taught how to couch their language for the investigation which follows, e.g., "I feared for my life/my partners's life", "He flailed his arms/made a furtive move/did not follow my commands/lunged at me", and so on (I've seen this in action firsthand). This is the standard metonymy when dealing with people of color after killing them under murky circumstances, yet (white) suspects like the Pittsburgh synagogue shooter can exchange a fusillade of bullets with the police, yet still miraculously get taken in alive. That's not "racist", it is too often the stark, cold reality we live in. |

The flaw that I was speaking about has been pointed out by military men who said that when the police show up they'll assume the guy with a gun is the bad guy.
