When Anita Hill leveled accusations against Clarence Thomas, they went through the procedure, with an investigation and hearings. This time they skipped procedure for a media brawl instead. Everyone involved should have spoken with the FBI and testified at a hearing.

To add, people said "nothing happened" when the accusations first came out against Bill Cosby. But the matter was investigated and here we are.

You are right, but I don't like that analogy because there is not the slightest possibility of a criminal proceeding against Kavanaugh.

It really comes down to: Do Lisa Murkowski, Dean Heller, Jeff Flake, and Susan Collins, only one of whom is running for re-election this year, think he is a suitable candidate for the Supreme Court? They don't have to determine beyond a reasonable doubt, or even based on a preponderance of the evidence, that Ford's accusations are true, in order to possibly decide no.

There is no statute of limitations for most crimes in Maryland (including attempted second-degree sexual offense), so Kavanaugh could be prosecuted for these allegations at any time.

Yeah ok, but the matter was resolved using the mechanisms in place. The GOP should have investigated these accusations instead of keeping so much of his background a secret.

The FBI is primarily an investigative body that performs forensic, didactic, legal, and scientific research to aid in the solution of various crimes at the federal or state level. While many people believe the FBI is a police force, it is more correct to say they are the knowledge clearinghouse of law enforcement.

Yes, the proof of their innocence surfaced when the actual rapist finally came forward. Before that, everyone from Donald Trump to Ed Koch to the prosecutors and case detectives themselves, insisted loudly and publicly that all five of those kids couldn't possibly be anything other than guilty, to the exclusion of any other evidence at all.
