AWESOME.It's interesting that there are New Yorkers who say that they will never use new names like Avenue of the Americas or RFK Bridge, but the popularity of JFK Airport proves that New Yorkers will adopt a new name if it's popular. Avenue of the Americas died because it's too unwieldy and it's obviously still the Sixth Avenue, being between 5th and 7th. RFK bridge might catch on a generation from now. It might well have caught on had it been so renamed in 1968. I will still call it Triborough for now. |

My mother remembered when the Interborough Parkway started at Queens Blvd and ended at Highland Blvd. No center dividers, either! She grew up on New Jersey Ave, on the dead end section that became Marginal Street East, where the Interborough ends at Jamaica/Pennsylvania/Bushwick Aves. |

Decades later, I still don't know why the TA (maybe MTA by then), put "Av of America Local" on the destination signs for the KK/K on the Arnines. I'd be curious to see what the R-27/R-30 (or R-16) destination roll said, though those cars never appeared on the KK/K that I know of (could've happened). Of course, the R-42s didn't have a route name, only a bullet, but I'm pretty sure the destination was "57 Street / 6 Avenue" (never saw an R-42 KK/K in person, but there are pics on nycsubway.org) |

It's now officially the Ed Koch Bridge although I've rarely heard it referred to as such. Of course if you want to discuss obscure re-naming of bridges in NY, one only need to look to the Beacon-Newburgh Bridge which 20 years ago was renamed the "Hamilton Fish Bridge". Now if they go ahead and rename the twin spans of the new Kosciuszko bridge after DeBlasio's wife, I'll puke. |

The official name is “Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge”.We don’t have a bridge, but we do have a street named after Kosciusko (thanks google auto correct) and we pronounce it “ko-chess-koo” or maybe “ko-chess-kyoo”. General Thaddeus Kosciusko in fact. |

A lot of people think the Outerbridge Crossing was named that because it's the outer most bridge in the city, at the other end of Staten Is. but it was actually named for Eugenius Harvey Outerbridge. They named it "crossing" as Outerbridge Bridge doesn't sound too good. |
