She's more conservative than Bruce Rauner, who really is a liberal, made Illinois a sanctuary state, and is pro abortion. Traits of a democrat.

Illinois's primary system is a closed primary. In other words we have to declare our party to the clerk prior to voting, and ONLY vote for candidates in that party, no crossovers. How is it done in New York State?

You have to be a registered member of the party to vote in their primary. I'm an independent, so I don’t participate. That's really how it should be. I really dislike open or "jungle" primaries, they distort democracy away from the Competition of ideas it should be.

Why are you so anti women that you don't think they should be empowered to make crucial decisions about their lives? Do you know that roughly half of all fertilized zygotes never result in pregnancy? Conception is no basis for a legal model. What about the high risk to a woman's life that pregnancy can be? Do realize that women are also citizens, humans and therefore should have the right of self determination.

So? There is no mandate to "turn in" anyone to INS. In fact, it's a violation of law to overstay a visa. It is NOT a crime, as such is not in a criminal statute. Want to outlaw this? Lots of law has to written first.

LOL! Parking "illegally" is also a violation. I don't think any variety of additional criminal penalty should be attached to that (presuming you pay the fine or appear in court to contest it, and do so successfully).

Like I said, if you want to change this, change the law.

It's a point. And no, that isn't meant as anything condescending to you or anyone. I do see the point in discussion arise here often though, and women that wish to force birth all fall into the same thing. I have no issue with anyone's personal choices. I have a big issue with imposing upon anyone else's.

You can switch parties every year if you wish, there's a lockout prior to the primary (think it's 30days). If you’re not in any party by then, you can't vote in primaries.

Considering that those are intended to provide voters input into party functions, it makes perfect sense that only members of the party should have say WRT nominees.

In Illinois voters can switch back and forth from one primary to the next. The last time I requested a democrat ballot was in 2006.

In New York, they can’t. Any change in party registration takes effect after the following November election. So it’s too late to change your party for the 2018 primaries.

Primaries are one means for political parties to determine who their best candidates are. In doing so, one tool is a primary election, a vote among its members to get their input WRT candidates.

Since it's a function based on the parties' concerns, it should be limited to it’s members and conducted according to it’s rules.. To permit others interferes in their business.

"Jungle primaries" take this further. Often it results in two candidates of the same party in the general election. What sort of opportunity to choose does that provide? Elections are also about policy direction and that gets lost with candidates that share the same governing philosophy and guidance.

Hmm, interesting point of view. But in a "jungle primary", would the 2 remaining candidates really be of the same view? If they were, then why vote for 2 people? Unless it was a tactic to eliminate others from the final election, but in that case, that would imply there was already a big majority for that party.

If they're of the same party, there's likely way too much in common, while other POVs are shut out. Do remember that primaries also see much lower turnout than general elections. So very few people, intent on tossing the end result "their way", get to devise the general election to virtually ensure their desired result. Meanwhile, opposing views, talent get shut out.

It often IS used to ensure a specific result in the general election.

In areas like cities where one party is dominant, having any other parties is just useless and the jungle primary with no partisan affiliations is better. Otherwise the primary is de facto the general election and the de jure general election is a coronation.

In rural areas, it's very different. Gerrymander the districts, fragment the urban voice, and elections are tossed to the will of the noisy minority. It's a really bad idea.
