Another School Shooting

This time, it's at Great Mills High School, in St. Mary's County, Maryland. Officials report the school is "On lockdown", and the incident is "contained". No word on casualties so far. Hoping they are minimal, or none at all.

That said, schools around the country were quick to punish students who participated in the national walkout protest last week. It should be abundantly clear why they were demonstrating...they want to survive their education.

Which students were punished for participating in the walkout. It seems to me that those who refused to participate were singled out for additional assignments or suspensions.

It is not so simple. Once the idea of cutting class to join a march or cause is established, we just wait for the next one. Today it is what seems an unassailable cause, tomorrow it is the grievance of a particular group, the idea after that it is a political grievance, and so on.

Then you generate a new '60s, which some people want.

And don't prejudge the motive of marchers, for ANY issue. Some people are passionate about the cause, some want time off and the possibility to chant, have a good time, and feel powerful. And some have other motives. As Howard Stern once put it (though he's too young to have protested Viet Nam) "You march, you put on a black arm band, you get laid."

I think it's disgraceful that the left is prostituting school students to push their anti-gun agenda. The natural inclination of students is to participate in any activity that gets them out of the class room.

Clearly, the protest would have had greater meaning if it held on a Saturday or any non-school day. But the leftist organizers know quite well that student support on the issue is less than zealous. It's also clear that no actions other than gun banning was supported when other means would be more successful in preventing future incidents

Nice try. The kid was too young to purchase a gun legally, even under current laws. NRA didn't sell the kid the gun. How about single entrances into and out of schools? How about metal detectors? Yes the NRA gets the blame. No they do not sell ppl guns but they are the reason no Common Sense Gun Control laws can be passed including holding parents legally responsible for kids having taking heir firearms. So yes they get the blame it lays at their feet. I hope they are satisfied with the collateral damage of their victories.

Yep. That's why those quarrelsome Canadians have just as high a non-gun murder rate as Americans, but only 1/6th the gun murder rate.

It will have no long term effects. In the 60s, thousands of students who left classes to participate in protests grew up to be successful. It wouldn't suprise me if some of those 60s protesters are parents, maybe grandparents of the kids who participated in that one day walkout. And there was a lot more going on in the 60s

So the NRA and their politicians haven't stalled multiple measures for common sense gun legislation? No I'm not talking about extreme measures but COMMON SENSE Legislation. You more than welcome to dispute these facts. I actually don't blame Trump for this one he just didn't realize the Goliath he was up against and apparently he learned fast.

As for your solutions treating the symptoms instead of the problem.
1. Metal detectors and backpack searches are a decent idea worth implementing but really all it would do is take school shootings from inside the school and bring em to the school yard before school or after school.
2. One entrance exit is a fire hazard. Station Nightclub fire.

So explain to me again how denying law abiding citizens their 2 and amendment right to own guns will work to stop school shootings. Do red light laws prevent people on Ru Ning a red light? Please explain as this young man was already too young to own a gun.

Never said anything about denying law abiding citizens guns. But if you have a history of mental issues not you shouldn't be able to legally get a gun. If you have a criminal record no you shouldn't het a weapon. No a child should not be able to buy a gun before they can legally drink. And yes adults should properly trained and take a course in using these weapons and they should be held legally and harshly accountable for securing there weapon from being stolen (which is very likely what happened here). There's a reason so many guns illegally sold are floating around.

Somehow, I doubt that God gave anyone guns, the rights to have them and the right to be as irresponsible as way too many Americans are with them.

There was a14 year old girl shot and killed by her brother this week. He was nine. She didn't want to give him a Nintendo video game controller. Gun was in the House, loaded and unlocked.

Canada DOES have far fewer guns per capita than we do. They take guns seriously as a society, and they enjoy a far lower gun death rate as a result.

Wrong. If you cannot control access to your weap9n, you should be criminally and civilly responsible. An American child dies, on average every day, from "gun accidents". If you won't secure it,you have no business having it in the home. In much of the civilized world, proof, including police inspection of the residence to certify there is sufficient safe gun storage, is required in the gun acquisition procedure.
