Once the idea of cutting class to join a march or cause is established, we just wait for the next one. Today it is what seems an unassailable cause, tomorrow it is the grievance of a particular group, the idea after that it is a political grievance, and so on.Then you generate a new '60s, which some people want. And don't prejudge the motive of marchers, for ANY issue. Some people are passionate about the cause, some want time off and the possibility to chant, have a good time, and feel powerful. And some have other motives. As Howard Stern once put it (though he's too young to have protested Viet Nam) "You march, you put on a black arm band, you get laid." |
