Interesting series. Will the Cubs advance to a second straight World Series (it would be only the second time in their history that the Cubs would have played in back to back WS, the first time, they actually went to three in a row, from 1906-1908 (lost to the White Sox in '06, then beat Detroit in '07 and '08)).

Or will the Dodgers reach their first WS since 1988, a 29-year drought exceeded by only 5 MLB teams (two of which have never been to the WS)

Longest World Series droughts:

Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals: Never been, started play in 1969 (48 years)
Seattle Mariners: Never been, started play in 1977 (40 years)
Pittsburgh Pirates: 1979 (defeated Baltimore) (38 years)
Milwaukee Brewers: 1982 (lost to St. Louis) (35 years)
Baltimore Orioles: 1983 (defeated Philadelphia) 34 years
L. A. Wimps Dodgers: 1988 (defeated Oakland) (29 years)


And all 4 teams that didn't exist in 1988 (Florida/Miami Marlins, Colorado Rockies, Arizona Diamondbacks, Tampa Bay (Devil) Rays) have all been to the Series, with Florida going twice.

The Washington Senators/Nationals haven't won a pennant since 1933, 84 years. And haven't won a World Series since 1924, 93 years.

Meanwhile, in the AL, potential history, as if the Astros win, they would be the first team in Major League history to play in the World Series from both leagues (In 2005, as an NL team, they lost to the Chicago White Sox). The only other team that could accomplish that is Milwaukee (went to the WS as an AL team in 1982, now in the NL)

OTOH if the Yankees win, it would be their 41st appearance in the Fall Classic.

The Brooklyn Bridegrooms won the 1889 World Series representing the American Association, and the 1890 World Series representing the NL.

I'm pretty sure nationals was a nickname for Washington at the beginning of the American League.

Well, there will now be 3 games at The Friendly Confines. Anything is possible.

Yes it was a long time ago, but the 1978 Dodgers won the first 2 games of the World Series at home, then went to NYC and imploded in those 3 games, then came back to L. A. for game 6 and submitted meekly to the Yankees. I no longer rooted for the Dodgers after that debacle.

By then, I no longer cared about the Dodgers. I also say that Steinbrenner being an asshole helped to lose that Series for the Yankees. And he got punished for it for the next 14 seasons.

Yes, after they blew that Series with a 2-0 lead. I suppose you could say I never really was a Dodger fan, but I was new to L. A. (arrived September 1976), and I figured I'd root for them, try to fit in. By then, the Mets sucked anyway, so why not. Then the first 2 full years I lived there, 2 NL pennants. I didn't hold the 1977 Series against them, the Yankees were just better, didn't hurt that my favorite all-time baseball player (Reggie Jackson) had a WS for the ages. But I figured with a 2-0 lead, you should win. Also, by the fall of 1978, I was kinda over L. A. (although I stayed another 20 years before I left lol)

When George Steinbrenner bought the Yankees in 1973, they were pretty much crap. The Mets owned NYC then, but George pledged to bring the Yankees back to winning tradition, and he did that, 2 different times. But all the shit he did to people, mostly his employees... Probably why he may never be elected to the hall of Fame, though based strictly on his record, he should probably be in there. Getting suspended two different times didn't help either.
