He's certainly not the first. Trump tells lots of lies. Previous Presidents were more polished and were misleading without quite fibbing. Which is perhaps worse in my opinion. Which is worse to say that you've been on the cover of Time magazine "14 or 15 times" when it's really only 11, or to lie about ending the war in Iraq? Or lie about the reasons to go to war? Or lie that you voted for the war because you were mislead?

Trump saying that he's appeared in Time Magazine "14 or 15 times" when the actual number is 11 is not a lie, it's just his recollection and it's close enough. Those aren't the general kind of lies that Trump makes.

As for the Time Magazine thing, you missed the rest of that sentence, which is more misleading, but is just ignorant and not lying.

A dangerous lie of his is his claims of electoral fraud. And of increased crime. I'd also add his claims of people in New Jersey celebrating on 9/11.

I know for a fact from a polling station volunteer that lots of voting fraud occurs in Los Angeles. Ok maybe second hand isn't a fact but she's adamant that Los Angeles allows multiple people to vote under the same name. She was told that all of those votes are flagged but that they are counted nonetheless.

Multiple people to vote under the same name? Huh? That's exactly the opposite of what Trump and others are claiming.

I don't know what he's claiming or how the opposite of what I posted would even be possible. But I'm not that interested in his claims.

What she says that she saw was in the morning people were voting normally. By the afternoon dozens and then hundreds were arriving using the names of registered voters that had already voted. No one shows an ID so it's impossible to know which votes are valid so all of them count otherwise legitimate voters would be disenfranchised. She was floored but was told that it's normal. They do flag the votes and if they are used to decide a race they are investigated or potentially disregarded. Obviously none of that is how it should work.

Our system in California where you state your name and sign next to it pretty much works on the honor system. Anyone can show up and claim to be Juan Garcia or Michael smith and vote. We just trust that people won't do that.

I think that there's lpotentially ots of fraud with mail in ballots where younger adults or caregivers mail in for parents that never see it.

Yeah. Exactly. The Carrier deal blew up too. Seven hundred union jobs gone. Everyone they had planned on firing is about to be. Might even be more when it's all said and done. Announced of cBS news tonight, as the lead story.

So what's all this about trump keeping the jobs here? Ford's headed to China. Yes, "China". Looks like even more lies.

There's a much simpler solution. If the named voter has already voted, just send the next person who claims to be that voter down to the Board of Elections, where they will fill out a provisional ballot.

That's much more burdensome than showing an ID. Plus then what? You still can't ask for an ID at the Elections Board so how do you not count the votes and potentially disenfranchise one of the voters?

Exactly, and Republicans have made it hard for the poor and elderly to get IDs, in reality all state IDs should be free and those who have difficulties due to being elderly or disabled should be able to a ride to an ID station or be allowed to mail in votes.

I agree with ID being free.

Government wants us to have ID for many situations, so they should give it out for free instead of for a fee. Especially to all those over a certain age, say 65.

Neither do I (any more), but that just shows we both associate with middle class people.

I had an elderly neighbor whose wallet (with all his ID) was stolen while he was in the hospital. I helped him get his ID back. It was a very difficult process. He would never have had the physical stamina to do it all on his own.

Not really. It just shows that we both live in the US where the number of adults without ID is very small regardless of class. The adults without ID are likely young and don't drive or work or very old. The subset of people without an ID and getting an ID would be difficult has got to be very small. The number of people in that subset that actually vote even smaller.

Voting is a right, so you can't ignore a small number of people, but I don't think that you need vans driving around to give ID's to 0.05% of the population either.

I assume they would have people who would function like DMV agents who would check people's documents and issue the IDs, which could be mailed. And they would also help people fill out applications to order birth certificates and the like.
