What percent of other breeds are even thought of in those terms?German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Dobermans, Great Danes, at a minimum. I agree that if someone wants a vicious dog, the dog of choice is often a pit bull. That does not mean that if someone has a pit bull, it is vicious. Having this discussion without actual numbers is pointless. |

Everyone of those breeds you listed was shunned based on the same ignorance as we're hearing right now. It's never based on facts but just on the premise of "well there's got to be something to it; that breed is always in trouble". For one, there's no accurate method of tracking dog attacks. For another, they don't track the motivation for the attack. All we hear is "dog attacks child" or "dog mauls man". We don't know the background of the dog, it's training, don't know if the human prompted the attack or not. Sometimes we don't even know the whole story. I remember when Rottweilers were public enemy number one. Then it was Dobermans and then it was German Shepherds. Now it's the pitbull's turn. It's not the breed; it's the training. |

It's not genetics but training. I've been bitten by so called "good natured" dogs like black labradors and dachshunds. I've also known pit bulls and dobermans and had no issue because they were trained to behave around people. |

Bitten is not the same as a mauling and jaw locked to kill.Dachsunds are known to be more aggressive than other hound dogs and they nip. And you made my point. The Pit Bull and Doberman had to be trained not to attack. The stats speak for themselves as much as much as you want to equate all 700 dog breeds. |

Well the dogs I've known have never attacked anyone. Anecdotal, sure but no attacks, hence my resistance to your argument.
