Everyone of those breeds you listed was shunned based on the same ignorance as we're hearing right now. It's never based on facts but just on the premise of "well there's got to be something to it; that breed is always in trouble". For one, there's no accurate method of tracking dog attacks. For another, they don't track the motivation for the attack. All we hear is "dog attacks child" or "dog mauls man". We don't know the background of the dog, it's training, don't know if the human prompted the attack or not. Sometimes we don't even know the whole story. I remember when Rottweilers were public enemy number one. Then it was Dobermans and then it was German Shepherds. Now it's the pitbull's turn. It's not the breed; it's the training. |
