It ought to mean someone from the Caucasus region (today the countries of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia), but it was bastardized by a German philosopher called Christoph Meiners to mean one of three "races" he envisioned ("Caucasoid" because he thought all whites originated in the Caucasus), the other two being Mongoloid and Negroid. |

There is no evidence that the individual named "Lucy" is the ancestor of all humanity. It may also be that Lucy's specific species is a "dead end," and Homo Sapiens simply has another common ancestor with Australopithecus Afarensis, although more closely related to Homo Sapiens than our other fellow great apes. |
