In general, more support Republicans.
More governors.
More Senators.
More Representatives.

The trend is away from Democrats for middle class Americans who don't want their money redistributed.

I don’t know how the numbers worked out in this election, but in 2012 and 2014, more votes were cast for Democratic representatives than Republican ones. But like the Electoral College, Congress does not represent the country as a whole (nor should it, for that matter).

So it’s not so much that the trend is away from Democrats, it’s just away from the rural rotten boroughs that continue to control the country and get subsidized by the more prosperous blue areas.

Well, let's look at governor races. Before the election there were 31 Republican and 18 Democratic governors. After the election, there were 3 more Republican and 3 less Democratic governors. The difference was just about 600,000 more Republican votes than Democratic votes in just 11 state elections.

Also, look at Senate and House races. Democrats gained two senate seats and 6 house seats. Every state had House races and 34 states had Senate races, as opposed to only 12 for governors.

"I don't think people want a new direction" is not contradicted by "Most voters did not want Trump".

Clinton was the candidate most associated with status quo.

The statement "I don't think people want a new direction" would be contradicted by "Most voters did not want Clinton".

And the statement "Most voters did not want Clinton" is a true statement.

So I think it is fair to say that Pelosi's statement is incorrect when looking at vote counts in the General Election.

Votes for Johnson and Stein don't count as the vast majority of those are well aware they're not voting for someone who will actually win. It's not clear which of the two real candidates they would have preferred.

OK, let's ignore SP's quite valid reply and consider that 48% voted for Clinton and 52% did not.

The 48% who did, per your logic, supported the standard quasi-liberal status quo.

However, the 52% who did not were all over the place, just as Trump the candidate was all over the place. Among the 52%, you don't have overwhelming (or even particularly strong) support for higher tariffs, for repealing ACA, for lower taxes on the wealthy, for reducing environmental regulation, for transferring federal land to the states, for government subsidies to companies in return for not transferring work out of the United States, for reducing our involvement in Europe and Asia, or for significant changes to Medicare or Social Security.

So on what topic do you think a majority of Americans truly want a new direction? Probably increased federal infrastructure spending, accomplished without increasing taxes or the budget deficit.

No, it's laughable on Olog's part.

There is no American in a position of political responsibility today who suggests that minority members be appointed to positions for which they are not qualified.

It is just Olog (and possibly also you) who is pretending that there are such people.

LOL again.

SP cited some facts. You laughed at his facts. He cited a source for his facts. You dismiss the source because it also expresses opinions.

So is it your view that just because someone expresses an opinion, the facts they cite to support their opinion can't be believed?

I am so sick of political commentary. I have had enough. Whatever "facts" may or may not be in opinion articles are lost to all the push of partisan BS. And that goes for both political spectrums. Any fact can be swayed through opinion however the writer wants it presented.

Perhaps you should look at your own posts and your failure to note how drastically Trump differs from every single one of the hundred plus major party candidates who have previously run for president.

(Well, maybe, just maybe, Trump could be considered comparable to Aaron Burr.)

I NEVER stated he wasn't "different" than all other candidates in modern history. that's a given. But that doesn't make him necessarily a "bad" president. Believe me, I have had my doubts about him. But currently, as of yet, I am cautiously optimistic on what he will be.
