The first world leaders that come to mind are all going to be controversial ones which would polarize supporters, like:Putin - Russia Merkel - Germany (surprised Weld picked her) Assad - Syria (kindof) Dutere - Philippines Netanyahu - Israel Obama (lol) To a lesser degree, Shinzo Abe (Japan) My understanding was Johnson got stuck trying to recall the name of the Mexican President he had met. So it was more of a name fail than a leader fail (still a fail, don't get me wrong). Personally the one I would have picked is Justin Trudeau, liked by the people but overall pretty boring so he's not in the news much. Some unusual but valid choices would also be: Pope Francis Queen Elizabeth II Anyway there are three options on the table: 1. A candidate who would say Putin without a moment's hesitation, and it would be true 2. A candidate who would have a well calculated answer in the chamber that was prepared by advisors and does not reflect any personal opinion at all 3. Someone who stops and thinks about the question to give an honest answer, and gets lost If you're trying to discredit the Johnson, gonna have to do better than that! |

Actually, if he were true Libertarian he should have named Lee Hsien Loong (Singapore). The most economically free 1st world country, low taxes, low corruption, high employment, low homelessness (among citizens). And despite being super business friendly, Lee still managed to fund massive public works projects like the fastest growing subway system in the English speaking world, and tons of quality public housing (they even build light rail feeder routes from them to the subway). So while Singapore is not Libertarian, it has the most important part (economic policy) down to a science. |

First is the raw economy, which developed for three reasons:1. They attracted fortune 500 companies by being a tax haven. 2. They attract companies and tourists alike by being centrally located in Asia, with English as the primary language of government and media. The next closest countries with that level of English are on the periphery of Asia, like Australia and Guam. 3. Oil. 4. Unrivaled safety. They have to post reminders periodically "low crime does not mean no crime" because so few robberies, etc. happen that people lose awareness and forget it is even possible. Security is a cost center for any business or homeowner, and not needing much of it goes a long way towards the bottom line. With a good economy, the taxes there are add up substantially. There are income tax brackets where the highest tax is 20% (22% starting next year). Then there's a gas tax, and a 7% sales tax. Also for example, they have unbelievably high taxes and fees for cars - a 10 year permit to own a car costs $60,000. This is before you even buy the car, there are import fees that basically double the sticker price. Conversely, public transit is distance based with the average trip costing around 85 US cents. The end result is, the only vehicles on the road are buses, commercial, people who drove in from Malaysia, taxis, and the 1%... They can also afford it basically because they are a tropical island slightly smaller than NYC with no recurring natural disasters to contend with, and 5.4 million people. While they do have a sizeable military, they have no need to sabre rattle so it's pretty much kept to a practical size for defending said island. There might be some other taxes hidden in there too -- stuff you need generally costs less than luxury items. For example, a small carton of orange juice cost 85 cents at 7-11, while a small bottle of soda costs $2.50 (it may have even been $3.50). |

Basically what AlM said.Le Pen, despite her odious ideology may actually be a capable person and do a good job, thus making Fascism mainstream, especially because unlike her idiot father, she is an astute politician who knows to not openly say crazy things (like denying the Holocaust), nor would she start a nuclear war. She knows how to play the game. Making Fascism mainstream by being potentially successful is what makes her incredibly dangerous. Trump, OTOH would be an unprecedented catastrophe, even if he lasts no longer than four years, which would have global consequences of the kind the world has not seen in decades. For this, and I hate to say this, I would prefer Le Pen. |

If Russia invades Latvia he might end up handling it semi-OK. There's no certainty that he would do anything irreversible like starting a nuclear war.And he might not get a chance to bungle the economy catastrophically. Even if he gets Dodd-Frank repealed, there's a good chance that financial institutions would not be able to use their new found freedom to cause a worldwide panic before someone more sensible gets in. And massive tax cuts would do ongoing damage, but again nothing irreversible. So the only real reason for putting Trump in the top spot as a danger is the risk. His average outcome is just bad. It's his 2 standard deviation outcome that is the end of the world as we know it. |
