Any idea why a vegan won't eat natural honey?

Posted by Dave on Thu Sep 22 13:56:30 2016

fiogf49gjkf0d
Read about that a few days ago. Why not? It's made by bees and there's nothing "animal" involved. So what's the issue?

Huh? Bees aren't plants. Honey is an animal byproduct like milk.

It's made by bees

Yes, by combining it with enzymes produced in their honey stomachs.

If a vegan is strict enough he/she would not touch anything produced by an animal. That concern would primarily ethical, IMO. In some cases the non-flesh animal products are obtained by methods arguably disturbing in terms of animal welfare.

Both my daughters are primarily ethical vegetarians of many years standing, but I would be upset if they went Vegan; it's a very difficult nutritional regimen, especial in growing years.

fiogf49gjkf0d
yup.

Years ago I went on a date with a woman who's a vegan.

She gave me a chocolate bar and told me she can't eat it because it ain't vegan. I look at the ingredients and told her there's no milk added like in most bars, just cocoa, honey, and one or two other items.

She told me honey is an animal product.

Of course she's a liberal university professor too.
