I personally do not give a rat's ass about Colin Humperdinck or whatever his name is. I know one thing: my parents emigrated here in the 1950s after the Holocaust decimated their families. They worked hard, became citizens and felt honored to live in a country where the laws were designed to protect them and not hurt them. My mother grew up in a town in Eastern Europe where the police sicced their dogs on innocent people because they were Jews. It was policy. My mother loved the NYPD and never missed a chance to compliment an officer on the street.Things aren't perfect. There are police officers in this country who shouldn't be allowed to carry guns either because they're racist or because they're just mentally unstable. I personally think the screening process for police officer candidates needs to be revamped to weed out the riskier candidates. But the system itself is sound and it's the best in the world. And if Humperdinck thinks the US is not worth honoring, it's because he's a spoiled, arrogant jock who doesn't know anything about the world we live in. |
