The career staff at State would have known all about it. |

Given the sequence of events I'd ssay he is confused to be polite. A dinner where the idea came up was quite certainly at the start of her tenure, as to welcome he to the "diplomatic community". If he contacted her later about it,Face it, a multicourse meal with multiple glasses of wine (Powell is a wine lover) people say things they then forget at these things. I doubt anything malicious was intended. |

THAT FIRST AND FOREMOST HAS TO BE DRILLED INTO A LOT OF MINDS ACROSS THIS COUNTRY. Colin Powell is not a drunk. Lots f non drunks do drink wine at dinner parties nevertheless. Yes, I think he is making far more of this than it was ever meant to be. So is much of the rest of the country. A not terribly bright idea has already been made illegal. That should be the end of it. So I’m certainly well-aware of the classification requirements and did not send classified material.
