There was an article in the Times yesterday about those high protein/fat diets. Yes, it works to lose fat and gain muscle, if adhered to strictly and most importantly, with a severe exercise regimen of weights and lots of cardio...hours of intervals and plyometrics daily. Nobody's stuck with it more than a month. Plus the absurdly high protein levels are considered dangerous without close medical supervision.The study participants were men in their twenties. You really ought to get some real medical advice about what you're doing here. You could be doing more harm than good. |

Do you have a link to the Times story?I'm not on a high protein diet. My protein intake is only about 75 grams. High protein would be someone aiming for 150-200 grams a day. Such a person eats lots of chicken breasts, tuna from a can, and supplements, usually in the form of whey protein. |

Not that you have much need to diet to begin with, saw your picture (you posted it last year), you're not fat.Any dairy is right out in a Paleo diet. So are many cooking techniques.....meats can only be dry-roasted, no fats or oils beyond those sourced from meat (as its ok to roast vegetables with the meat) or dried, Eggs were consumed raw, (with all the egg recalls that's a really bad idea) and there were none this time of year. Also you're not doing much whole grain, includng oat and wheat berries, steamed or bolied whole. That was the majority of the Paleolithic diet, followed with root and tuber vegetables, then fresh fruits and vegetables as they could be found, in season, add to that some meats, though far rarer than you're consuming. No butter is allowed, nor cheese. Remember that the cooking process has a lot to do with fat content and the preparation options were limited. In the stone age, there was no cookware as we know it today. |
