Iran hands over nuclear stockpile to Russia

Posted by SelkirkTMO on Tue Dec 29 03:31:47 2015

fiogf49gjkf0d
Probably would have been better all around if they'd handed over to us, but then again why should Iran trust US given all the positioning by our political parties and allies? At least it got done somehow.

the day after,

Iran announced that it has discovered a massive uranium deposit at home.

Nothing to see here, they don't need it. Obama/Kerry, the worst negotiators in human history got duped again by being too lazy and uppity to do any homework.

If that is your concern, you might as well just throw in the towel. Russia can always supply any country in the world with nukes if it wants. We can't stop them. What if they supply North Korea with nukes and decent quality long range missiles?

fiogf49gjkf0d
Why would Iran having a deposit of uranium have any bearing on their existing stockpile of weapons grade uranium? The Iranians have surrendered their highly enriched uranium (which at 20% U235 was hardly weapons grade) and are taking natural uranium from the Russians which has virtually no U235. They gain nothing digging up natural uranium in their own country as opposed to using Russian yellowcake. U235 decays at a given rate, so there's no such thing as a natural uranium deposit which has a high concentration of U235.

In fact they may actually find that indigenous mining is worse, as they'll know the US and the rest of the world will be able to observe their domestic mining and directly infer the progress of the nuclear weapons program by what they now have to tell the IAEA about their plants. The real danger is of course that the Iranians will produce plutonium, yet somehow in the right winger's infinite ignorance almost all the focus has been placed on uranium enrichment. Luckily the Obama administration pushed for changes to the Arak reactor to bring it into compliance and make plutonium production almost impossible.

fiogf49gjkf0d
They have a civilian nuclear power sector that will require low enriched uranium to feed into reactors. They're getting natural uranium from the Russians and have to enrich it to around 3.5% U235 for use in those power reactors. For that they need roughly 6000 centrifuge.

Great, just in time for the 2016 elections.

Now that we know Iran doesn't have nukes, we can look forward to President (Jeb) Bush insisting that we need to invade Iran to preemptively defend ourselves from the nukes they totally have. We can expect the media to parrot his lies without fact-checking a thing, that real journalists will be purged for questioning the official story, and the invasion to end with a big "mission accomplished" banner and a commitment to eternal occupation.

Then around 2022, the media toadies who told lies to support the war will "suddenly discover" that they were wrong about it and write articles explaining how the invasion was a Mistake In Retrospect that No One Could Have Known At The Time and begin patting themselves on the back for being such Serious Journalists compared to those left-wing nuts who did know at the time and were right all along.

In 2024, the popular opposition to the Iran war will reach the point that a Democrat is quickly swept into the White House promising to end the occupation. On the campaign trail, he'll promise complete withdrawal of troops by 2025, but once in office he postpones it to 2026, and then claims that some troops will remain permanently even afterwards. However, by 2027 he'll be demanding we send more troops to Iran because the government we put in power after the previous war is Just So Dangerous that America simply Cannot Let Them Live.
