The return of another TV classic: Mystery Science Theater 3000! |
|
Posted by The Silence on Tue Nov 24 12:38:20 2015 TWANG!sorry, couldn't help it. For the past two weeks, series creator and original star Joel Hodgson has been running a kickstarter to help bring the show back. The overall goal is $5.5 Million for a 12 episode season. so far, the project is about 48.5% funded at about $2.67 Million (I, as a massive fan, pledged $100). the minimum goal was $2 million for three new epsiodes. $3.3 Million makes six. $4.4 Million is 9. While classic cast members have been invited back, Joel has selected a new cast for the new season. The new host is Jonah Ray from "The Nerdist" podcasts as "Jonah Heston" the new Mad scientist is geek queen Felicia Day ("Dr. Horrible's Sing along blog", "Eureka", "The Guild", "Supernatural" and a voice role as a PC companion in "Fallout: New Vegas"). She'll be playing Kinga Forrester, daughter of Dr. Clayton Forrester for the original 8 seasons KTMA-7. Comedians Hampton Yount and Baron Vaughn are the new voices of Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo, respectively. The projects pledge rewards that actually matter are as follows (there are many with simple swag crap and there are some really expensive ones two) as it stands: (Note: the have set up challenge goals where they will add classic episode downloads to all pledges $35 or more. One set of three has been unlocked already and another set can be unlocked if the project gets to $2.75 by noon Thursday) $35 gets you an HD download of the pilot of the new season (plus the classics) $100 gets you the full new season (however many epsiodes are made) $200 gets you the full new season on disk (choice of VHS or DVD) $250 gets the above, with the pilot on VHS! |

Update, the project is now 50% funded.there are a few rewards that cost more than Joel can actually ask for via Kickstarter, so while as of 11:30PM it's at the midway point of $2.75 million, $2.79 million has actually been pledged. basically, two people bought themselves executive producer credits. |

Therefore, they would never do MST3k, not even the old ones. |

Plus, it's my solid go-to for anything good to watch.Don't forget, tomorrow is MST3k Thanksgiving. |

So they added a good bonus thing, and I finally put my name on the list of backers.I love the show but... what I liked was the local hokeyness of it being local to Minnesota, with the people and the jokes. Didn't rifftrax even have some of the same writers? Now they're getting and using professional jokers nationally to reboot the show. It loses that one thing I always liked about it. Although I know TV's Frank isn't from there, but still. |

Actually, only a few of the cast were Minnesota natives. Mike Nelson and Kevin Murphy are from the Chicago area. Frank Coniff and Bill Corbett are native New Yorkers (Bill's even still a Mets fan). Joel is actually from Wisconsin.Joel said he would love to do the show in the Twin Cities, but LA is easier from a logistic standpoint at this moment. |

Secondly, it is the highest earning TV/Film/entertainment crowd fund ever, over taking the "Veronica Mars Movie." and thirdly, that there will actually be a total of 14 episodes. |
