Governor of NY along with Vice President, Unviel the new LaGuardia Airport

Don't like flying to LaGuardia because of it's poor condition or service? Well, that's all about to change.

Just today, New York state governor Andrew Cuomo along with Vice President Joe Biden unveiled a $4 billion dollar rebuilt LaGuardia Airport. The selected design showing the rebuilt airport was shown as well. The rebuilt airport includes a ferry terminal, the terminal being moved closer to Grand Central Parkway, and an Airtrain connecting to the (7) line and LIRR (Long Island Railroad) to note a few. Cuomo said that groundbreaking on this project will start next year, and adding that, the governor's office says phase 1 should be completed by 2019.

This is an awesome idea. It can maybe make LaGuardia become an international airport. :)

What would be even better: running the actual SUBWAY to LaGuardia, instead of having Airtrain connect them.

Honestly, an Airtrain is better. Doing a subway extension would take lots and lots of political manpower. And I have a feeling there are NIMBY's (not in my backyard) kind of people. An Airtrain would be just fine.

If they can allow the Airtrain to pass by their backyards, they can allow the subway.

Wonder if the perimeter rule will go away as a result.
I suspect LGA would still be slot-controlled, since no runways are being added.

I'd be curious to see how they plan to keep the airport open for business during construction. Not that it can't be done -- but it would be a huge logistical challenge.

I would love to see the Airtrain extended from Jamaica to LGA and onwards to Astoria. With some creativity around baggage handling this could potentially make JFK/LGA into a unified airport and allow LGA's huge eastern and midwestern US footprint feed into JFK's massive international footprint.

My guess - carefully planned staging and the use of temporary terminal facilities, like JetBlue did at JFK while they were building T5.

and the Will D element will not make note of that. Their outrage is selective. That's how his people are.

Instead he'll comment on orange blossom special's roof.

Did you hear about the Philadelphia mob? Nicodemo "Sick Nick" Scarfo Jr., son of Nicodemo "Little Nicky" Scarfo who was a boss in the Lucchese crime syndicate, was convicted on more than 20 counts of mail, bank and wire fraud and racketeering conspiracy in connection with a scheme to loot First Plus Financial of Texas. The shakedown allowed Scarfo and associate Salvatore "Sally Eggs" Pelullo to buy weapons, ammunition, a Bentley, an airplane, a house, expensive jewelry and a $850,000 yacht named "Priceless." Said mobsters told the Board of First Plus Financial to quote shut up and step aside unquote which, after thinking it over for about 2 seconds, did exactly that.

Many other airports have used "bus gates" during major construction where they will keep planes out on the tarmac somewhere and shuttle passengers to and from the terminal using buses. LGA presents a challenge for that approach because of the limited tarmac space (which I assume will be even more limited during construction).

Certainly if the project comes together it will be interesting to watch it all unfold. I'll probably be observing from afar, though. After being a frequent LGA user for 10+ years, I think I have used it only once in the last 6 years.
