Owner of Remington can't find a buyer

I'm actually surprised.

I thought gun manufacturers were doing well, given all the fear that Obama will outlaw everything.

fiogf49gjkf0d
Not exactly. A lot of that was hype, driven by and for the gun owning minority getting paranoid about new laws restricting ownership (which have time and again held up in the courts) after the latest wave of mass murders (VT, Aurora, SandyHook). That paranoia is subsiding.

What HAS been happening is a withdrawal of capital from gunmakers overall. From individual investors to large institutions, investment funds are drying up fast. With sales once again continuing what has been a slow long term decline, these companies are struggling to deal with their debt. No one *wants* to own them.

If one can't find a buyer for ANYTHING, such as real estate, it just means one thing: They're asking too much. Anything can be sold at the right price.

Of course. However, they have a fiduciary duty to their investors. They aren't allowed to just give it away. And they have determined that no sale of the company is as good for their investors as to keep on owning the company.

As usual, you have no idea what you're talking about.

Is the buying frenzy of 2012-2013 over? Yes. But the more likely a Hillary Clinton victory looks, the more advance ‘fear buying’ will recur. Demand for ammunition is still unbelievably strong.

Investment funds are not "drying up fast" for publicly traded gun and ammunition manufacturers. Of the three publicly trade gun and ammunition manufacturers, Smith & Wesson and Sturm Ruger have about 71% of their stock held by institutional investors. Olin has almost 90% of its stock held by institutional investors.

These stocks pulled back last year but have recovered nicely this year.

Not according to the article. Obviously you didn't read it. Nor did you cite where your numbers came from, so we'll have to ass-ume....

I don't believe a Clinton victory will do very much about gun owner paranoia, at least at first. Will there be tighter restrictions passed during her Presidency? I hope so, especially tightening background checks. My wish is that something gets done WRT competency, similar to licensing drivers. Guns are a health threat to all.

Better. Still doesn't explain the plethora of investors wanting OUT from gun manufacturers. They're becoming like South Africa in the late 80s. May look good on paper, but the evil overwhelms

California Teachers Retirement is one of the biggest there is. They are getting OUT of guns. Seems wise, what teacher would support something that could kill them without a moment's notice? Like what happened in Sandy Hook, Vt, any number of schools across the country? This cam't be rationalized away. Getting out is the best option.

False. The percent of institutional investors in the public companies has been increasing to steady. Sale of private companies can be for many reasons and public opinion is usually the least of those reasons.

Further poking holes in your fallacious argument is that teachers are carrying guns:

Utah

Texas

Colorado

Oklahoma

Anyone with half a brain wouldn't want to go near three of those four states, especially women. Most teachersstill are. And Colorado is quite worrisome, don't see where the intelligence went.

It is perfectly fine for rational competent people in rural areas to own guns, one needs to defend against wildlife. There is NO need for them in urban areas, schools, Starbucks (for example)or any establishment that serves alcohol. They are a deadly comboin the latter.

I don't remember the details, but it was looking like Thompson was going to get it and then something screwed up on his end. FWIW though, the NYC mayor has pretty much been a figurehead since Wagner. Yeah, folks like Rudy can get out there and beat cameras to death for attention, but it's really NYPD, Real Estate interests and the Council that actually does stuff and makes it happen.

They could elect Olog and nothing would change. DiBlasio's slowly starting to notice that too. :)

Since I've not lived down there for ages, I don't remember the details, didn't really care. But towards the end, something went off the rails with the Thompson camp and I seriously doubt that commercial was what swayed the voters. But whatever, Bill won and it still doesn't matter. He's the official puppet on stage but he ain't running a DAMNED thing down there any more than any other figurehead at Gracie Mansion. That bus left nearly a century ago.
