If I shed a tear for everyone who dies tragically, I would die of dehydration within minutes.The difference is that I admit that I feel no grief. I don't disingenuously prepare to. If someone I knew and loved died, and you pretended to care, I would be far more offended than if you said nothing at all. Also, there have been times in which terrible news has been posted about people whom I have heard of, and I refrained from comment despite actually feeling sad, because I felt that such expression in the medium of SubChat/OTChat would ring hollow. Such expression would be indistinguishable from the fake sorrow that you express and I'd rather not be associated with it. |

I would put it slightly differently from my point of view.I am saddened (and angered too) by the killing of Officer Moore. I've said so briefly. I'm also saddened (for example) by the deaths of thousands of Nepalese in the earthquake there. But there is no one at Subchat who is particularly closely connected (at least that I know of) to the people who have died. So I don't convey my condolences (saying I am sorry for your loss) to anyone here. It wouldn't make sense. |
