Then why did Nancy Pelosi say we had to vote for it to know what's in it if it was out there for 20 years and why did president Obama push so hard to get it passed if he knew that it was such a bad plan and would be his signature accomplishment with his name on it? Why did the Republicans oppose it now and why did the Democrats oppose it 20 years ago. Your argument does seem a little flawed. |

Nilet is right.Obamacare is copied from Romneycare, which was copied from the Republican alternative in the early 90s. The nitty gritty details weren't identical, of course, but the broad outlines were. Democrats opposed it then because they were more liberal then. Obama supported it now because he thought the only chance to expand health care was on Republican terms. So he proposed a Republican plan to get Republican votes and then they opposed it anyway because it was Obama's proposal and not theirs. |

The rebound from the Bush recession is a success though taken longer than should have due to GOP intransigence. WallStreet reform. Killed binLaden. Repealed "don't ask, don't tell." Increased fuel-efficiency standards. Improved food-safety standards (new 2011 FDA law). Reformed student loan program. |

Because it's not a "bad" plan, and compromise was the only way to get anything passed at all. Why did the Republicans oppose it now Obama Derangement Syndrome and why did the Democrats oppose it 20 years ago. The Heritage Foundation plan was presented as opposition to the Clinton plan, so I'm not sure it makes sense to say Democrats were or were not opposed to opposition. |
