Well once you know about it, the courteous thing to do if you are going straight is to stay the hell out of the left lane if you can at all help it. Surely there are some dumbasses who aren't doing that b/c they may be able to gain position by using that lane to head straight instead of waiting further back in one of the other lanes. |

In Las Vegas, where most intersections have left turn arrows, intersections with no red arrow will usually have a sign stating, "Left turn yield on green". Click here for an example. I most have a problem with this on Northern Boulevard eastbound at Union Street in Flushing. There's a dedicated left turn lane and signal that precedes the standard green, but there's no red arrow. The problem here though, is that the green arrow fades off before the main green comes on, and there IS a red light camera. So you can't sneak through as the left green turns yellow and disappears. However, once the main green comes on, there's nothing stopping you from entering the intersection and turning left when oncoming traffic eases up. But almost nobody does. So before I ever enter the left turn lane there while the main green is on, I look to see if the first car is in the intersection or just sitting behind the stop line. If he's behind the stop line, I just go around him. I don't have time for this nonsense. Buses do the same thing. I have a similar issue with these weak-ass left turners at our smaller intersections, on streets where it's one lane in each direction. Guy in front of me wants to turn left, but with no one in the intersection in front of him, he's basically waiting behind the crosswalk for oncoming traffic to ease, and I can't get around. When the light turns red, he's still sitting in front of me, instead of using that opportunity to complete his left turn. When I'm the first car in those situations, I pull all the way into the intersection for two reasons. One, to give room for cars behind me to go around me on the right. Two, if an approaching car also wants to turn left, I'm blocking him from doing so, which allows me to complete my turn, since he has to stop so I can get out of the way. |

I recently pulled in front of a car the way you describe at the intersection of South Conduit and 225th Street. Since S Conduit is one way, it wasn't that the idiot was worried about oncoming traffic, it was because he apparently believed that 225th was too blocked up to make the turn. I disagreed and was right. |

Normally a left turn yielding on green means you yield until the intersection is clear, meaning once you enter the intersection, you essentially ran the light.You will never see a democratic Latino here under amnesty enter an intersection until clear. |

Also amazing are people turning left (or right) from a narrow one-way street onto a wide avenue. They can't turn because there are pedestrians in the way. So do they go into the middle of the avenue so that cars can swing around them to straight? No, they wait right at the beginning of the intersection for the pedestrians to clear, blocking all traffic behind them, until they can turn. |

I very really reply to necroposts but this is such a pet peeve of mine. If I'm behind one of these I automatically go around them if it's safe to do and go the middle of the intersection. I usually get stares, middle fingers or honked at but I just turn and smile at them. I think people are paranoid at all intersections because of the red light cameras. Also I think part of the reason is a lot less people are taking driver's ed these days. |

I don't know why so many people seem to be confused about making left turns. I once dated a girl who would stop behind the stop line when yielding to oncoming traffic for a left turn. I once asked her why she did this, and attempted to explain that it is permissible to wait in the intersection (unless there's red left turn signal), but she was adamant that I was incorrect.Like you... when I see a car just waiting at the stop line, I simply go around them. |
