Whose fault is that?

It's easy to blame the black community for not publicizing these efforts, but it's easy to brush it off. In other words, it's all well and good that Jewish people helped in the movement, but when you blame your "Jew landlord" for high rents, or some "Jew stealing all of the welfare" and some other Jewish guy for being a crappy boss or customer, or even white people in general for why your life turned out a certain way, there's nothing much that awareness will do.

I remember that strike. I was in 5th grade at P. S. 161. Once it was over, we had to stay an hour extra to make up the instructional time we missed, so my mom packed an extra lunch for me. Also, I don't remember all the exact details, but I think the school asked for parent volunteers to come to the school in the evening to keep something from happening (lockout?) So my mom and I went and brought our dog. She was still basically a puppy, but even then, she didn't take any shit. :) IIRC, one time, someone approached the gate and she barked and they backed off.

Doberman/Basenji mix (as far as we can determine). Best dog ever!! :)

So what would you like to know? Here are my thoughts at the moment, in no particular order.

1. It's too bad all the drama surrounding the decision to give the speech ended up overshadowing the speech itself. I still think Netanyahu probably shouldn't have made the trip in light of the upcoming election in Israel, but he came and gave a speech that did a fairly good job of explaining why the deal with Iran is so problematic.

2. The decision to make this trip and give the speech put many American Jews in a very uncomfortable position in having to choose whether to support the president's position and office or the State of Israel. As an American Jew, I wish Netanyahu didn't put me in that place, and I know many others from across the political spectrum who believe that. American Jews should not be put in a position by Israel where they appear to have to choose between one country or the other, one of the most common accusations anti-Semites make when wanting to show why they can't trust Jews.

3. Despite the belief/hopes of the far left within the Jewish community, the fissure this speech caused within the American Jewish community and Congress is not as large or as deep as they hoped for. The fact that only the Congressional Black Caucus, far left congresspeople, and a few more from very safe seats didn't attend while pretty much everyone else did says where Congress actually stands on Israel and Iran at the end of the day.

4. Netanyahu could have and should have offered more details on what he would like to see done vis a vis Iran instead of just reminding us what he does not want. By extension, this is why I'm hoping he loses his election in two weeks. Since 2009, we've found out a lot about what Bibi is not for, but very little about what he actually wants (aside from remaining in office).

5. Obama's continued failure to understand geopolitics and the Middle East is very concerning. The contrast between the two men as described here is almost as clear as mud.

My thoughts:

1) True, Netanyahu could have given the speech from Israel but most Americans wouldn't have paid any attention to it. He gave a very credible speech and now most Americans are at least somewhat aware that there might be a problem with Obama's approach.

2) I think when people say most American Jews, they are projecting their own feelings. I have no discomfort with the decision. I wish that it hadn't been so polarizing but the speech itself was not. It was the old democrat vs Republican that got twisted around this issue.

3) I agree

4)Again, I agree

5)The contrast was made quite evident by the clear and concise reasoning presented by the Prime Minister. He presented a very clear and understandable explanation of why he didn't like the deal as he understood it. I personally agree with the reasoning. I think that our president should have been listening and learning how a strong, decisive leader speaks and acts instead of pretending not to be listening while finding reasons to disagree with the speech. On the other hand, I can see why some in congress might disagree as the urgency felt in Israel over this issue is not felt in this country.

Jews have a weird relationship with blacks.

I'll bet most Jews would rather see O'Reilly off the air before Sharpton. Really.

Jews are more concerned about vandalism than violent crimes like a black guy going to Brooklyn to stab a Jewish kid.
