In my country's language, "nika" (when pronounced "nee-ka") means "squirrel" and is also a derogatory term for "child."

When pronounced "nye-ka," it means "spoiled foods" and is also a derogatory term for people who offer their input long after the appropriate time for doing so; primarily, necroposters.

I went for a 5-mile run on Tuesday before work.

It was brutal. Early in the run, I encountered Snow Flurry Ramon which was pleasant at first but began to sting a bit when it turned into Freezing Rain Boris. Then, I had the misfortune of stepping in a mud puddle that had been left behind by Steady Rain Marlo leaving one of my feet cold and wet for the remainder of the run. This was particularly uncomfortable during the last mile or so when I encountered Windy Day Jethro.

As a result of all this, I had this bone chilled feeling the entire day -- despite the emergence of Pretty Nice Day Cecelia around noon.

Watched every Saturday morning. I especially liked Sally... her hair was perfect. The episode about some little girl who fell down and was crying was poignant. A couple of Davy's friends walked by her so they could go to the county fair and get a balloon but when Davy happened by he put her in a little red wagon and pulled her home. Goofus and Gallant moment. Anyway, it remains a wonderful show except for the Progressive Democrats, hereafter referred to as PDs for purposes of this thread, on this board since said show was produced by the Lutheran Church in America and as has been pointed out by any number of individuals on this board PDs hate family values, the military, alternative read charter schools, sports which involve physical contact and declare a winner and loser, large corporate entities such as Big Oil and Big Pharma, smaller government, freedom to speak at university lecture series if you identify as a Conservative Republican organized religion.

Maybe the names are convenient for meteorologists for easy reference when comparing storms, but that's about it.

I didn't remember the name of the huge one we had in NY last January, and if there is any that should be named, it's that one. I just had to look it up and it's Jonas, but the Wikipedia article name is "January 2016 United States blizzard."

I remember when blizzards were simply known by the year they occurred. Examples are the Blizzard of '96, the Blizzard of 1888 that jump-started the movement toward building an underground mass transit system in NYC, and the Blizzard of 1947.

I remember that one. My bar mitzvah was a few days after the blizzard. My brother and I tried to dig out our driveway so that a few guests who were staying over could park there. There was a huge drift in the driveway and we soon found out that it was at least half frozen, like a snow-covered iceberg. Winters were colder back then.
