The NYPD has not released the names of the murdered officers (the NYPD is probably trying to locate their next of kin). However, the suspect was shot and killed by a third officer in the Myrtle-Willoughby subway station one block west of the shooting site (which happened at the Tompkins Houses).Woodhull Hospital's emergency room is only 8 blocks away from the shooting site. |

Out of the 40,000 or so marchers we got together for last week's overwhelmingly peaceful demonstration, about sixty were yelling "Kill Cops" and all of them were marching with a different, separate group from ours.No one wants to see the cops hurt or killed; what we are advocating for is better training, better supervision, and better treatment of people of color by the police. None of this is unreasonable. How quickly everyone here forgets that I am the son of a police officer, and even my dad agrees that the Garner case got way out of hand. He thinks Pantaleo should have been indicted, too. That said, what a horrible thing to befall the two cops and their families, at any time of year, but especially during the Holiday season. |

I think Wilson and Pantaleo should both be rotting in jail for what they did, and I'm still going to engage in nonviolent demonstration about that. I agree that some of those at the March weren't about peaceful protest at all, and these people are being held accountable for their actions, exactly as the mayor vowed they would.As for "endangering lives by blocking traffic", the March was scheduled, as are parades and street festivals of every description throughout the year. Nobody accuses the Columbus Day Parade, for example, of "endangering lives". That's just a red herring. |

There were thousands who didn't agree with the O.J. Simpson verdict but there were no marches. There were no protests. There were no riots and no looting. Some of us understand that the law isn't perfect but in a nation of laws, the law is supreme. The "peaceful" rallies did nothing but inflame & validate the mindless drones of violence. Let's hope that the police now begin to treat all unidentified fish as sharks. |
