Oktoberfest time!

Its that time of year again. Time for beer loving connisseurs to enjoy the fruits of fermented barley, malt, hops & yeast brewed only this season. Thanks to our Bavarian bretheren, a special brew is available that is truly nectar of the gods for those who appreciate quality head (in a beer mug that is!).
Having graduated summa cum lager, earning my degree from various taprooms in Irish Woodside (west of 61st st.),allow me to suggest a few pallet pleasers from my accumulated knowledge available only this time of year...

LowenBrau
Paulaner
Spaatenbrau
Sam Adams.

Years ago, Lowenbrau was the best Oktoberfest out there IMO. But when they were bought out by Miller, the taste was not the same.
Sam Adams is good at a reasonable price.

BTW, they (Sam Adams) have to spell it "Octoberfest" The k in the spelling as in "oktoberfest" is copyrighted & a registered trade mark of the club of Munich Brewers.
So enjoy! Overindulging is not the wurst thing that can happen to you!!

That's "Löwenbräu" (Lion's Brew in English). Can't leave the umlauts out.

Spaten Oktoberfest is by far the best IMO

Wasn't LowenBrau made in Germany before it was bought out by Miller? I tried Miller's version once and never drank it again.

That doesn't surprise me. I had Tuborg (sp?) once, when it was still imported. I was very impressed - the first beer with taste that I really liked. Then a few years later, I tried the domestic version - same thing - tried it, and never drank it again.

Same also with the English Mackeson, Triple Stout (not Triple Valve). Very dark stout great with a sweet'n'sour aftertaste. Didn't drink it for a few years, then bought a couple of bottles. It didn't taste the same. I thought - maybe my memory is playing tricks on me. Then I noticed on the bottom of the label - licensed to be brewed someplace in Ohio. So, it wasn't imported anymore, and wasn't the same. Never drink that again either. Hoping some kinda way to see this one back as an import.....

Spaten has always been a favorite, but my absolute favorite of all time was Hacker-Pschorr. Sadly, the past couple of years, they seem to have declined. But one stands out lately as actually a bit better than Spaten, and that's Paulaner of all things. Give it a try, you WON'T be disappointed! :)

I still know people that swear by Fürstenberg.
