I'm threading about NYC paid sick leave

Hello all.

In July a law went into affect in NYC allowing employees to take time off when they or relatives are sick.

It's supposed to benefit menial laborers like cashiers, cooks, bus boys, etc..........

I wonder how many will actually take time off when they need it? These workers live in fear of abusive employers.

IAWTP. It would be used by said workers unless their place of business is unionized for the exact reason you mentioned.

Does this go for temporary and summer employees? I know teenagers don't get summer jobs like they used to before Obama's Regime, but when they do, it's kinda expected/assumed that you take your paid days off before your assignment is up.

Neighbor owns 3 restaurants in Brooklyn. Between this socialist nonsense and constant rent increases he's closing one at the end of September. Paid sick leave will definitely be abused.

fiogf49gjkf0d
He's closing his restaurant because he expects the sick leave provision to be abused? I suspect not.

It sounds more likely it's the rent increase, which unfortunately is happening because NYC is doing so well that other people are willing to pay more rent for his space.

No one opens a business in NYC any more. Rents are too high!

Anyone that closes a business just based on thinking the business climate will get worse (and not because of any specific laws or regulations) is a fool.

A genuine rent increase is another matter altogether.

That sounds like the excuse most people use to absolve themselves of the obligation to seek action to remedy such problems...

Thanks to the government, tuition costs are through the roof, never mind textbook costs (general chemistry book was $45 in 1987, which according to the BLS inflation calculator ought to be $94.38, but instead is way over $250).
