The social security money people are getting today is paid out from the social security taxes on current workers.Yes and no. Facebook tracks you for google, and if you're scrupulous about removing cookies, supercookies, flash cache, regular cache and history when you browse, then you destroy the connections that they use.Most people don't know how to wipe their tracks and that's what google depends on. Some of the most popular sites (particularly among righties and lefties) make money letting google tag them as they walk through. But sounds like you at least use good internet hygiene. :) The situation though is VERY real and has been since the 1980's when doubleclick first came along. They got bought up by google many years ago. |

By the way, I checked— "railfanning" and "trains" don't count as interests in Googleland. |

As Nilet pointed out, there are ways to screw with those results. We use an operating system here that forgets where you last were. Most people don't have that option and don't have the slightest clue as to how to make their dossier go away. Phones and Facebook really put a crimp in doing that because they both have solidly unique identifiers even if you nuke your cookies. |

Results go to advertisers who then go back to each and target to statistical data for the audience you want to reach. Google ads are everywhere. So are facebook like badges. And to take it that one extra step, if you can login to a site with your facebook signin or google+, then all that data gets pooled.Behind the scenes, there's a LOT to how it all comes together. Meanwhile y'all are all hung up on Obama and the government who are at least subject to SOME Constitutional restrictions. Private sector IS NOT. |

It's an incredibly complex web the big data operators have built over the past 15 years. And countermeasures just aren't working so well anymore. They even have zombie cookies now. :(Then there's Browser fingerprinting which, in addition to zombie cookies can defeat pretty much any attempt at hiding from corporate big brother. Try this test and see how it works: Panopticlick browser test by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) Now you know why I've been giggling about the NSA. They're actually rather highly limited in what they can do. Google and the rest? Nope. |
