Joseph Caleca Arrested For Sikh Hate Crime After Mowing Down Sandeep Singh With Truck

August 19, 2014

NEW YORK (AP) -- Police have arrested a 55-year-old New York man on charges he called a Sikh man a terrorist and mowed him down with his pickup truck.

The encounter happened July 30 in Richmond Hill, Queens.

The New York Post reports ( http://bit.ly/1o8TRKo ) that Joseph Caleca and 29-year-old Sandeep Singh exchanged words because Singh's car door was blocking the street.

Police say Caleca called Singh a terrorist before hitting him with his truck. Police say Caleca then accelerated, hit Singh and dragged him several feet before fleeing.

Caleca, of Setauket on Long Island, was arrested late Monday on charges of attempted murder as a hate crime and assault as a hate crime. No information on a lawyer for him was available.

Singh was treated at Jamaica Hospital for abdominal and back injuries.

If someone steals from a 7-11 store, they go to jail, but bankers at BofA stole and they don't , WHY

fiogf49gjkf0d
Seems rather odd that here in America, when someone steals at lets say from a 7-11 store, some money and/or goods, they get sent to jail. But when bankers at Bank of America steal, that get to keep their jobs and their bonuses, their up-scale lifestypes, etc and they just have to pay a fine. Seems like stealing is based on a CLASS-LEVEL deal. A poor soul who has no money to get a real lawyer gets jail time and a rich banker gets defended by the bank's TEAM of lawyers and they get to walk free of any personal criminal charges. So then that means THE CRIMINALS ARE STILL WORKING AT THE BANKS. Only in American can that happen.

From the NYDAILYNEWS.COM:

New York state receiving $4.5 billion from legal settlements with banks, insurance companies

That bonanza includes a $300 million payment announced Thursday — part of a $16.65 billion national settlement by Bank of America for peddling some of the crummy mortgage securities that led to the financial crisis of 2008.

BY Kenneth Lovett NEW YORK DAILY NEW

ALBANY — New York has hit the jackpot.

The state is due to receive a windfall of $4.5 billion thanks to a string of legal settlements with banks and insurance companies.

That bonanza includes a $300 million payment announced Thursday — part of a $16.65 billion national settlement by Bank of America for peddling some of the crummy mortgage securities that led to the financial crisis of 2008.

The question now is how the mountain of loot will be spent. It’s a discussion that will likely intensify as part of next year’s state budget negotiations.

Fiscal hawks fear state leaders will be tempted to use the money to fund recurring programs, which they say will only cause big budget gaps in future years.

“If they put a significant amount into recurring expenditures, you’re increasing permanent spending commitments without having the money to fund them,” said E.J. McMahon, of the conservative-leaning Empire Center for New York State Policy.

He said the state would be better off using the bulk of the windfall on one-time expenditures, such as mass transit and upstate transportation projects.

Morris Peters, a spokesman for Gov. Cuomo’s budget office, said the administration could support using the money for such one-time capital expenditures, as well as for bolstering the state’s cash reserves, and reducing debt.

“That doesn’t mean that’s where we’ll land,” Peters said, noting that the spending is subject to negotiations with the Legislature.

In a radio interview Thursday, Senate Republican leader Dean Skelos (R-Nassau County) said most of the windfall should be used to fund bridge, road, sewer and other infrastructure projects.

But he also didn’t rule out using some on tax cuts and education funding.

A spokesman for Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver (D-Manhattan) had little comment. “All that will be discussed with the members,” he said.

Easy.

Because the bankers who steal all of this money are rich and powerful and can buy off the politicians, who then pass laws to protect these very same bankers from prosecution.

People who rob 7/11's are not usually wealthy.

IAWTP...but do you see my point? and how this affect America? here you have the rich getting away with "murder," and the poor get sent to jail for years because they can't afford a real lawyer that will fight for their rights. Look at how many poor souls get sent to jail and are really innocent and waste years in jail for crimes not committed only to be freed years later and then then some government has to pay up for the years behind to the poor soul.

There's more than a few, e.g., Ken Lay at Enron. He was convicted but died before sentencing. Another one is Leona Helmsley. Jordan Belfort ("The Wolf of Wall Street) served 22 months. And don't forget Martha Stewart! But you're correct, a lot more poor people than wealthy people do prison time.

They only thing that failed here here is your not getting the correlation between Mr. Caleca and your buddies from the old nad in Howard Beach, Queens......or was in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn.

Just like the story I saw yesterday about some guy driving 60 miles to the Dorney Park in PA and some called the cops and said...hey...there is a pickup full of illegals. You see, now Hispanics are now viewed as "illegals." Sad day in PA.

"If you can afford the best legal representation, you can have the best legal representation and get away with just about any crime."

Then justice in America is then NOT FAIR and honest. The poor get locked up and the rich get to run away from the law.

"But you're correct, a lot more poor people than wealthy people do prison time."

I am making light of this because nothing really has changed up to 2014. The poor get no breaks and the rich get to dodge the laws. Sad to say this.

It's not fair but still better than anywhere else. In a perfect world everyone would be equal in court but human nature creeps in and you get what you pay for.

your pal,
Fred

Because they didn't steal anything.

Besides that the BOA responsibility is because of Countrywide which they bought after the recession and at the encouragement of the US govt because it was feared that Countrywide becomming insolvent would worsen the crisis. Then BOA gets sued but don't complain. The whole thing is very strange. They must be getting something out of it and probably at our expense.
