Easter Weekend Shooting Rampage |
|
Posted by Train Dude on Tue Apr 22 21:06:38 2014 The numbers are not finalized as yet as the various reports show but approximately 8 people were killed and 44 shot over Easter weekend. This would be horrific if it were for the entire nation. It would be worse if it were in one state. But its unspeakable because it occurred in one city - the city with the toughest gun control laws in the nation - the city of Rahm Emanuel and barack obama - the democratic city of Chicago. Perhaps taking guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens was not such a great idea.CBS News Link Daily News link |

It's an object lesson on the impact of neighboring states' gun laws. Talk to the CPD. Guns flow into Chicago gangs through 'legal' purchases in Wisconsin and Indiana. NJ and CT are far less liberal with their gun laws and the results show in NY's lack of gun crimes. |

Another Jeremiah said, "Prepare war against her, arise and let us go up at noontime; woe is to us for the day has passed, for the shadows of evening are stretched out. Arise and let us go up at night and let us destroy her palaces. For so says the L-rd of Hosts: Cut the trees and cast on Jerusalem a siege mound; that is the city whose sins have been visited upon her, everywhere there is oppression in its midst. As a well lets its water flow, so has she let her evil flow; violence and spoil is heard therein before Me continually; sickness and wounds. Be corrected, O Jerusalem, lest My soul be alienated from you; lest I make you a desolation, a land uninhabited." Sorry, no video. |

Actually, while admittedly very strict, Chicago does not have the "toughest gun laws in the nation"--that distinction belongs to New York City, as it has since the late 1970s. Today, mere possession of a gun that's not registered in NYC--regardless of whether it's legally owned anywhere else--will get you 3 1/2 years in prison, period. Tourists get caught carrying their gums around the city like this all the time. Guns are everywhere. Is there really a legitimate reason for there to be 310 million nonmilitary firearms floating around in this country? That's almost one gun for every individual now living in the United States. What invading army (with, presumably, hundreds of millions of soldiers) are we expecting to defend against? It's ludicrous, and gun proliferation at these levels is the cause of all the gun violence, not gun control laws... |

If Chicago has so many more murders per capita than NY, despite equivalent gun laws, it obviously says something about Chicago, not about gun laws. |

The more rural a state is, the more guns are part of everyday life, and the more people die from guns. Not much different from more people being killed by cars in those states. But Texas is interesting. A very urban and suburban state, but I guess people think they're cowboys. A few other outliers as well with more gun deaths than explainable by my theory, like NC, IN, FL. |
