Actually, while admittedly very strict, Chicago does not have the "toughest gun laws in the nation"--that distinction belongs to New York City, as it has since the late 1970s. Today, mere possession of a gun that's not registered in NYC--regardless of whether it's legally owned anywhere else--will get you 3 1/2 years in prison, period. Tourists get caught carrying their gums around the city like this all the time. Guns are everywhere.

Is there really a legitimate reason for there to be 310 million nonmilitary firearms floating around in this country? That's almost one gun for every individual now living in the United States. What invading army (with, presumably, hundreds of millions of soldiers) are we expecting to defend against? It's ludicrous, and gun proliferation at these levels is the cause of all the gun violence, not gun control laws...
