I didn't miss the point at all. I totally understand what you are TRYING to say. But again, heterosexuals and gays can march in the parade in the groups under the banners there. there is NO gay exclusion. The gays want to march under a sexuality banner for gays, of which there are no sexuality banners in the parade. Heterosexuals aren't running under a sexuality banner either, they are marching under whatever group they are in, of which there are gays too.
There are no banners flaunting sexual preference. No one cares. No one cares if there are gay police officers, bagpipers, firefighters, etc marching either, just as no one cares if they are not gay.

All banners are heterosexual banners. Just like there's black history and women's history. White history, men's history and straight history are just called "history." Gays marching anonymously under any other banner are marching under a straight banner.

And you seem to believe that no one cares if they're gay, but that's obviously bullshit.

Straight History is offered as an elective at the University of Maryland - Baltimore County (UMBC) which has a decent college lacrosse program. Said institution of higher learning is located in Catonsville which is near Baltimore. One Dan Lawrence, who knows a lot about trolleys streetcars, is from Baltimore and is not one to be trifled with which means messed with.

I disagree. Take a banner for a hypothetical typical Fire Company/Engine/House. That banner represents the civic service/institution and all of its members. Its members can be of any race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual preference, familial status, or disability. It doesn't matter. They are all just "firefighters". This gets to be total nonsense. It's like saying that all banners are biased toward those who are right-handed, simply because most people are.

Maybe everybody should just be required to carry their name and birth certificate number? I mean. . .seriously, how else are you going to make sure you definitely get represented?

As others have said, there's more to life than sexual orientation. Get over it. Parades should focus on what unites, not what divides. The parade organizers got this one right.

If left-handers came to feel that they were a hated minority, I wouldn't care if they decided to march and chant "we're here, we're sinister, get used to it!" or something.

Yes, just the way everybody pays taxes for stuff they don't necessarily endorse, or are in fact vehemently opposed to.

And the parade isn't forcing anything on you. You don't have to attend.

If left-handers came to feel that they were a hated minority, I wouldn't care if they decided to march and chant "we're here, we're sinister, get used to it!" or something.

So since we don't know of any significant oppression of left-handers, currently, it wouldn't be true that only because a majority of a population is a certain way (i.e. right-handed) that their banners are automatically advertising that way, as you would suggest with "straight" banners.

I've been part of the NYC LGBT Pride March Committee for eight years now. We do such radical things as plan the annual March down Fifth Avenue, co-ordinate the many corporate sponsors, and review applications from those seeking to participate in the March, and the street festival at the end of the parade. I also host the stage show on Pride Sunday in Greenwich Village every year.

Conservative Catholic League leader Bill Donohue has been making a big noise about the St. Patrick's Day Parade issue, and said on Steve Malzberg yesterday, that he wants to apply to our parade, carrying a "Straight Is Great" banner. (He also said he was "going after" Guinness for boycotting Monday's parade.) I told the rest of the Committee that if Donohue wants to carry a "Straight Is Great" banner in the March, that was fine by me.

We haven't heard a peep out of Donohue since then. Just sayin'.

Nothing he said replies to my post. I'm going after the fallacy of thought that says that a banner that does not obviously advocate for a group of society considered ignored or else treated in an inferior way must necessarily advocate for the opposite group.
