We will return on Monday with the weekend report. The son of a homeowner on Thursday night shot and killed one of three suspected intruders at a home in west Harris County, Tex. Around 9 p.m., the homeowner heard a knock at the front door and when he opened it the suspects rushed inside. One carried a pistol and another had a shotgun. The owner yelled for his adult son to get a gun and the younger man rushed down a hall to a bedroom. He grabbed a gun and fired three shots, hitting one of the men, who died at the scene. shows why guns are useful. |

There's a LOT more murders and accidents than actual successful self-defense scenarios. Also bear in mind the original victim, the man answering the door didn't use the gun. Had he been alone this crime would have resulted in another(more?) stolen gun. The perpetrators were armed, they were ready for this. The article doesn't say if they shot their guns, or how they got the guns to begin with. It did present the opportunity for a lot more loss of life. |

I don't have to ask, since you seem to feel that it's your need to post on gun violence every other day, so why do you even bother? Are you going to wait for another massacre to take place, before you realize banning weapons is not going to solve the problem?Time to get down, off of your high horse. |

Posted by bingbong on Thu Mar 7 16:52:54 2013, in response to Re: Today in Guns, posted by mcorivervsaf on Thu Mar 7 16:32:06 2013. Banning weapons such as the Ar-15 and other high power semiautomatic rifles capable of accepting detachable magazines is only one part of the solution. However, since these lethal weapons are useless for any rational defense or sport, they should be. Banning large magazines is important. Strict background checks, no limit on the time required for them, especially for first-time buyers, outlawing straw man sales, and strict enforcement of same are also necessary. There is *nothing* in the 2nd amendment that would make a mandatory registry unconstitutional, in fact the founders expected and implemented same in law. This could extend to mandatory training, safe storage laws and enforcement of same. THEN we'd be getting somewhere about guns. Many if not most of the incidences in Joe Nocera's blogs are accidents many of which involve children. Maybe you ought to READ some of them instead of whining about their existence. |

Posted by bingbong on Thu Mar 7 17:08:53 2013, in response to Re: Today in Guns, posted by mcorivervsaf on Thu Mar 7 17:01:20 2013. Where did I call any common sense gun regulation "gun control". It is up tot he owner to control their guns. Since way too many do NOT, laws to ensure they do so are necessary. It is also to the benefit of the public that people that should not have guns be unable to acquire them.Deaths from drunk driving have been on a 10 year decline, while gun deaths are increasing every year. That is a fact NRA types cannot ignore. If you're in favor of guns, you're on the side of more death, more carnage, more crime. |

I guess you missed the part where I said "Criminals Ignore Gun Laws", you seem to have forgotten that.Your desperation is hitting critical mass, right about now, I suggest you find something else to do.
