Banning weapons such as the Ar-15 and other high power semiautomatic rifles capable of accepting detachable magazines is only one part of the solution. However, since these lethal weapons are useless for any rational defense or sport, they should be. Banning large magazines is important. Strict background checks, no limit on the time required for them, especially for first-time buyers, outlawing straw man sales, and strict enforcement of same are also necessary. There is *nothing* in the 2nd amendment that would make a mandatory registry unconstitutional, in fact the founders expected and implemented same in law. This could extend to mandatory training, safe storage laws and enforcement of same. THEN we'd be getting somewhere about guns. Many if not most of the incidences in Joe Nocera's blogs are accidents many of which involve children. Maybe you ought to READ some of them instead of whining about their existence. |
